Keep in mind this is a CHARITY event...
The tournament committee is getting slammed with a lot of questions...which is fine...but please just remember we are doing this to help feed the hungry...and have some fun doing it!
These are all volunteers working their butts off so we can all have a great time doing what we love...so, PLEASE be patient and understanding with us. Try not to get caught up in the prizes and give-a-ways...we're doing the best we can but things may not be perfect...be safe, catch some fish and have a good time...it's simple...let's keep it that way!
Thank you...BTW...well over 50 teams now!

Re: Keep in mind this is a CHARITY event...
All that from one of the most competitive guys I know
Just kidding you Bud
I am hoping all teams remember fair play, sportsmanship and safety first and foremost.
I appreciate the work the volunteers have put in to make this happen. Lots of us are looking to see if we can replace last years champion Tuna Time.

Re: Keep in mind this is a CHARITY event...
Folks it aint about us it is about trying to feed the hungry. Whether we get to fish or not is secondary to the need that exhists here in Oregon. The money collected will still feed folks and everyone's intention to help is noted.
My brave prediction is that blood will be spilled on the decks of all boats fishing SAturday and that the fish gods will show mercy and grant us safe passage to the killing fields for this more than worthy benefit.
My hat is off to all that have put this event together and you will not hear a complaint from me unless Bait of Eggs wins $3000.00

Re: Keep in mind this is a CHARITY event...
We realize this is a charity event. Those who participate will be forking over a lot of $ for fuel, gear, food, hotel etc. We simply would like to join in the festivities after donating our time and money. It's no fun to be the odd man out.

Re: Keep in mind this is a CHARITY event...
It is a charity event. And that is definitely how I am looking at it. I don't plan on winning anything.
However, the stakes are pretty dang high, and that can really make people turn ugly. I really hope that everyone can keep the spirit of the event in mind. A heartfelt "good luck" to the judges and organizers, especially with the big fish contest. I sure hope somebody bangs a really big fish and makes it easy. If everyone comes in with a 35-40 pound albacore, you should just declare it a no contest and put the big fish purse in the food bank's pocket.

Re: Keep in mind this is a CHARITY event...
Who said you could not come to the festivities?
Every team member that participates will get a wrist band to enter the party afterwards. Every team member will get a t-shirt. (all done at the captain's meeting)
Every team, regardless of the number of members, will get 5 raffel tickets for the drawings. It is a team drawing not an individual drawing...the teams themselves have to decide how to handle anything won. This is how they do it in Cabo and it works.
If something does not go the way you think it should have...just remember the first post in this thread.
We're going to try and make this as fun for everyone as we can...I was only asking you guys to remember why we're doing it.
Bud

Re: Keep in mind this is a CHARITY event...

Just remember - For a tax deductible $200 you could get in on the tuna tourney where you get up to 5 shirts, a gift pack, 5 tickets to the grand prize raffle, entered in the day of tourney raffle, dinner and beverage supplied by the Rogue Brewery, official OTC Burgee, and of course the thanks of the Oregon Food Bank and Ducks Unlimited. Heck, even if you don't go tuna fishing, it's worth it! Of course today is the deadline......
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
According to the rules you can have 6 person teams. Does that leave one person on a six man team with out a chance to other prizes and a shirt and dinner?
|
Quote:
YES-
The six person teams were to accomodate any six-pack charter boats that entered. The number was bandied around with some saying 4 person teams, and others 5 or 6. We settled on allowing 6 people, but to reduce cost we maxed the shirts and raffle tickets, and dinners to 5.
|
This was on another thread by Nalu. This is where I thought others weren't equal to the festivities. This is where I got my information and started to do some PM'ing. I believe it is all cleared up now. I am looking forward to the event for the cause of the Oregon Food Bank.
Thank You Bud for all your hard work in putting this together for such a wonderful cause. To feed the hungry.

Re: Keep in mind this is a CHARITY event...
This whole thing is what got me through the winter. I will have made a good showing if I am not afraid to show up at the party afterwards because I did not get a fish on my boat! Anything after that will be frosting! Better than great job here guys! A legend in the making!

Re: Keep in mind this is a CHARITY event...
Seems that we have contradicting information, hope we got it all straightened out. I'd hate to see 1 member of each six man team left out of the festivities.

Re: Keep in mind this is a CHARITY event...
Smily,- fat thumb mistake on the dinner portions. Sorry about that. We originally had set the raffle tickets and shirts to 5. We are upping the t-shirts.
To be honest, what we should have done is have the entrance fee be $200 for a team of 4, but allow up to 6 on a team. Each person over 4 should have been an additional $50. Due to the difficulty of processing fees, we decided to keep the entrance fee low, and try to limit the amount of merchandise, food and beverage to reduce cost. Since there are opportunities to purchase t-shirts and entry to the dinner we figured people would understand that trying to make cost about even for everyone was fair.
Lesson learned for next year.

Re: Keep in mind this is a CHARITY event...
This is a "TEAM" effort...there have been many, many people working very hard to put this together.
Guys both on the committee and those not have made great sacrafices in time and money to make this happen...these folks deserve all the credit! You will get a chance to raise your glass and toast these guys on Saturday...some truly wonderful people! Mike, Del, James, Marty, Doug, Chad, Dick and the list goes on...you guys are rock stars!
Another thing...you can come to the party if not participating by simply paying $20 for a wrist band...Rogue is handling this. You can pay at the door...or very close to it!
Now that we have this cleared up...and we're all excited about the weekend...let's go have some fun and put a quality meal on the plate of those less fortunate!
It's all good guys...

Re: Keep in mind this is a CHARITY event...
Thank you Bud, Nalu, and all you volunteers that are making this event happen!
Much like the Salty Dog Apparel order, we all need to realize they are not making money from this event, IT IS ALL FOR CHARITY!
It is a lot of work folks and if too many people make it a hassle then you feel like not ever doing it again. I know the feeling.
Thanks again guys and I look forward to seeing everyone this weekend, regardless of whether we even get to go out fishing or not.

Re: Keep in mind this is a CHARITY event...
Sorry to be such a hassle guys. I didn't realize their would be extra shirts and dinners ready. Let me know who to send the check to and I'll gladly pay for our extra 2 members.

Currently The BLACK ROCKET is scheduled to be on AUX patrol for the event anlong with CG boats from Depoe Bay and Yaquina Bay. I will be attendence at the Captain's meeting along with represenatives from both CG stations.
I would think you would invite the boat crews to the after event festivities?

Re: Keep in mind this is a CHARITY event...
Something Good- No worries. This is a learning experience for those of us putting it together. I've never organized anything remotely like the Newport event, and there is bound to be things not thought of, or noted to change in the future. All I can say is that we're doing our best. There always seems to be another question to answer, or another problem to solve, but it's all worth it. Team OTC is the best!
So, to re-cap, t-shirts and wristbands for the BBQ for all participents!

Kujo- All volunteers and of course all Coast Guard personell are invited and will be given wrist bands. Those at the Captains meeting can get a wristband there. Others can show their Coast Guard ID and get a wrist band, or of course if they are dressed in uniforms.
Of course this doesn't mean that volunteers and USCG personell can't make donations to the charity as well!

Re: Keep in mind this is a CHARITY event...
My salty brother...you are not being a hassle...the "Smily" situation was a good question that needed to be addressed...we want everyone involved to have a great time and feel apart of the event.
There have been 10,000 or so other questions...and I was trying to direct people's attention to the fact that this thing will NOT go off without a hitch...hell, we'll problably have a few. But in the end, everyone is going to have a good time...as long as we play it safe...and the beer is cold!
Tracker is right...we are all building something very special in this tuna tournament series...we can all feel good about being the foundation for a future tuna dynasty here in Oregon!
Peace-
