Default Helix, OR Camera Phone Picture

This was taken near Helix Oregon by a Dryland Wheat Farmer who recently put most of his ground in the CRP program. He lives at the intersection of Campbell and Macrae Roads I believe. This was in his backyard.

The subject of the e-mail was "See what CRP can bring".

Amazing... Has there been other sighting of this moose in the area? I hope some idiot doesn't shoot it during cow elk season.

Last year just before or after harvest there was picture of a Cow Moose running through a field near Helix in the paper.

The guy who took the picture has a sod waterway with grasses that reach 10 feet high. I hunted pheasants with mu buddies in it once and could barely move or see. I didn't see my dog the entire ditch and she was within 10 yards the whole time. This thing probably encompasses 75 acres. There could be a herd of moose, bigfoots, and bengal tigers in that thing and no one would ever know.

Sounds like a great place for the mafia to bury a body or two. I have hunted a couple of patches like that near Bridgeport. The pheasants are there, but boy are the a pain to get out.

I have hunted bears over in the Walla Walla Unit (NW side) for the past 5 years and the first year I seen one moose , and the second year I seen 3. I wonder if they have migrated down out of the ruff stuff..

That's pretty cool that she's still hanging around, but she must be getting lonely! Here's a pic from the same area last summer, probably the one "beaver93" referred to above.

Beaver93...do you know a guy in Helix named Robin Severe? He builds custom saddles. Anyway, he sent me the moose pics last summer.

This time of year some of them get a wild hair and develop a case of wanderlust that is unbelievable.

Just plain awesome. I remember the first time I got a really good look at a moose. I was on a run in the middle of the summer, in SE AK. I'm 6'2 or so, and we were pretty close to eye level. Then I saw it's mother.... and she was not a happy camper.

I mentioned that I like elk hunting because they remind me of something that's prehistoric. Moose just take it to another level. The waddle, the brahma hump, the three foot long head.... what a great animal. I've never hunted them, and where I was, I don't think it would have been too difficult, but what a cool animal. I know it's not practical, but I would love to see a population take off here.

Sliver Picker,
Yep, thats the picture I was referring to, and I do know Robin Severe. My family used to trade lumber to Duff for saddles back in the day. My uncle still has one on display in his house.

Now all we need is a bull and oregon will be on its way to having a population of moose. I have heard of several being seen around the Grande Ronde valley area. GO MOOSE

There were a couple cow's in the upper North Fork Walla Walla. Santiam saw a cow moose scouting up there 2 years ago. Vic Coggins stopped at our camp in 2004 and said there were three young bull's in the lower Wenaha up river from Troy. But as of then they hadn't made a love connection and produced any calves. Probably only a matter of time.

When my wife and I lived in Adams,Ore our postman hit a cougar 6miles west of Adams in a brush draw. He called the Game Office and they said to bring it in. He said it took three days with all the windows open to get rid of the smell.
That moose is further proof of strange things in Helix.
