So I\'m ready to tuna. weather better now.
Just when I am ready to head out to the big blue in search of tuna the weather gods begin to laugh at me. 5 and 6 saturday and 6 and 5 sunday. I really needed this trip but no fish is worth those kind of seas. Sorry Charlie, until we meet again.

Re: So I\'m ready to tuna ...but...
So with the conditions changing for the weekend, what would you say for a charter? We have a charter booked for this weekend with a total of 14 of us with Siggi-G out of Garibaldi. Think there will be any issues? I know we won't be going out 40-60+ miles but it still might be a little rough. Should I reconsider or will they reconsider? Don't know what they consider to be rough or borderline conditions for a charter boat that size.
Thanks for any input.

Re: So I\'m ready to tuna ...but...
Charters are big boys and this kind of water should be fine for them. my 26 is a gimp compared to what those 40 and 50 foot boys can do. Go fishing.
Ray, I just bought another garden tractor last night BTW. Those lawns don't have a chance.

Re: So I\'m ready to tuna ...but...
Since I got the new avet I have been out on the lawn tearing it up with the jig I am practicing casting. A slow process but when the wife calls with something for me to do I just say I am mowing the lawn! Now if only a tuna would jump up out of the thatch there and take the jig.............. Oh sorry I just dosed off!

Re: So I\'m ready to tuna ...but...
I-wish, if I were you I'd be talking to the skipper (not just the shop) on the phone about this.
Suppose the fish are 40 - 50 miles out (which they have been). If the weather is marginally cruddy, yes they can still go but it will probably be a slow plow all the way out. If they can only do 12 knots, now you have a 4 hour ride out. And they can only be away from the dock for 12 hours (unless they have a second skipper). So in terms of actual fishing time in the hot zone, it could be pretty short.
You need to get real clear on expectations well before you show up. Otherwise someone is going to be :depressed:

Bernie, you're just gonna have to finish that floor. Have you recovered from last weekend? Just have another go and wait it out.

Re: So I\'m ready to tuna ...but...
I'm with you Bernie. I need to do some TUNA thumping. I just had to go Halibut fishing last weekend and miss the TUNA. I want to go Saturday, but things are going to have to improve for me to go out 50-60 miles.

Re: So I\'m ready to tuna ...but...
Can't believe that every Charter boat up there doesn't run a back up on tuna trips...maybe I'm used to the longer runs down here..but even on the 40-50 mile trips they run a second (thank God for that...my extra $$$ depend on those trips)

Re: So I\'m ready to tuna ...but...
Bernie,
You must be shakin pretty bad to be headed out. We are waiting for an update on the weather before making our decision, but with the price of fuel and ifffy fishin, may make sense to hold off and not get beat up........but if it comes down from 2 & 6, we will be with you.

Re: So I\'m ready to tuna ...but...
You could leave port at 5-5:30 and make the bar without a problem + get the benefit of the outgoing to give a big push out.
What am I missing? :laugh
It's dark out there at 3:30

Re: So I\'m ready to tuna ...but...
8 foot exchange Kevin and 6 foot possible seas add up to a possible difficult bar after5:30am or so. Tom says the bar will be ugly by 6;30 and he's got me on the experienced captain by a long shot. I trust his judgement on this and He is willing to lead the way across the bar at 8 to 10 knots BTW.
I hear Newport was a blood bath today.

2 and 5 at 10 seconds. Sounds like a nice ocean to me for Saturday. Anyone else running off the CR besides Minaki and Cool Cat?

Re: So I\'m ready to tuna ...but...
I would love to but don't have enough crew at this late time to compensate for the cost of fuel. Any room left on the early boats?
I will be heading out on Sunday for salmon and should have some room for sunday.

Re: So I\'m ready to tuna ...but...
My boat already has four souls aboard. Don't know what tom is up to but He is unreachable right now as he is driving through the mountains. I am leaving in one hour (2pm) for the drive over. Be careful on that bar Sunday as it may be a biggy.
