Default Is it Smelt yet?

I'm looking forward to my first year of dipping and thought that by now I'd hear reports of the little devils having reached the Sandy or Cowlitz. Aren't they usually here by now????

Be assured that you will know when they come in. I can promise that. Then you will get tired of hearing about it.

With the cold weather early this month they are late. The good news is when they come they should be in big numbers. Last year there wasn't any big 2 or 3 day stretch like there normally is.

Then right after the smelt the Big ones run!

Those little guys and gals kinda run on their own schedule. Who knows, they may not even show in the Sandy again. I'm sure when and if they do show, this will be the first place to look.

Ive dipped smelt since the early 70's. Yes the Rivers are blown out right now, so not likely that they will show at this time. But January is not the usual time they show up anyway. They have been in our Rivers in January during the last two years, but the main thrust of the run has normally been in February. And yes once they are in, the post regarding them will seemingly be endless.
