Default AC help Needed!!!

Hmmmmmmmm

Seems to be that the AC has quit working in the house. We have a central unit, not the window type. The thermostat is working fine, turning the unit on when it gets warm enough in the house and the unit is getting power as the fan comes on inside the AC unit, but the air coming out of the ducts is not cold or even cool for that matter.

There is two copper tubes coming in/out of the unit, niether of them are getting cold, so it would appear that there is a problem with the compressor...

Does the compressor have symptoms that I could identify...or any suggestions. Unit is only 3 years old.

You guys are always helpful on this kind of stuff. Thanks,
Dan

Is the compressor fan working? If not check your breaker box as they are on a seperate curcuit, breaker might have tripped. If it is running and still not cooling then you might have a coolant leak. And you will need a pro for that.
Some units have a sight glass that has a cap near your compressor outside and if you see alot of bubbles in the sight glass your coolant is probably low. I would first check the breaker, 99% of the time thats the problem.
Hope this helps some.

It's not a Carrier Puron Unit is it?

If so, I feel your pain. If mine was a car, I could have it replaced under the lemon law by now!

Where are you located, what part of town? I have two of them that I can give you numbers for. I work with them and they come to do home inspections with me.

I had air condition problems and found that my air filter had become cloged when I got the bright Idea to give my stove pipe a shot from the pressure washer on the roof to remove a birds nets. I didnt stop till my wife came sceaming out of the house that ash was billowing from the stove . If the filter even becomes a little cloged it can cause the system to Ice up and restrict the flow of freon to the furnace(I turn it off let the Ice melt clean the filter and Im back in bisiness). My ac has been runnig fine for about 10 years but It will Ice up if I space on cleaning the filter and we get sucsessive 90+ days I think my house is a bit big for the one they put on ,it manages 73 on the first floor and 78 upstairs when its 100 out. I have found that if I put a few fans near key vents I can really cool the house off much better. Good luck Im not looking forward to getting a new one

How long has it been since it has been professionally cleaned? I had the same symptoms and they finally did a deep cleaning on the third trip out and it fixed it. I did not believe that cleaning would make that big of difference but it did. The company only ended up charging about $120 total for all three trips.
