Default OUCH! Just put a 10" scratch in the new boat!!!

I dont have a pic up but I somehow put a 10" scratch all the way to the aluminum beneath the waterline!

I never heard anything hit, and I know it didnt happen at the launch.

What do I do? leave it or touch it up? the first one really hurts

Thats OK. Im in the same "boat" (sorry). I took my new NR Scout on its maiden voyage and nailed the corner of the dock right on the NR graphic and paint. I wasnt as lucky as you I ended up with a softball size dent right on the logo ABOVE the waterline for everyone to see. I guees we really know how to break in a boat.

My first ouch was not as big but just as devistating, I went to the drug store and bought the largest band-aid I could and put in right on the boo boo and then let the grins begin. It wasn't so painful after that. Welcome to the club.

Battle Scars! I'd leave it, it just proves you use your boat for more than a driveway decoration!

My first scar was a big ugly gouge to bare metal at the top rear corner of the boat, thanks to my navigating skills backing into my old driveway... I rationalized it as a way to prove to people that my boat really is made of aluminum (I still have people try to argue with me). You know it won't be the last scratch, so you might as well relax and enjoy it!

At least you did it yourself. My worst one was applied by a toadhead plowing near the ramp and tossing a 4' wake up the ramp at Willie Park = bumpers were no help - I heard him and saw him but was 100 yards from the boat going to get the truck - just about swamped my boat as well - two nice bright deep scratches and a dent.

I like the band-aid idea - yo Greenbuttskunk - here's is a money maker for you

I bought my 21 ft. Custom Weld in December. First boat. My buddy Dave tells me the first thing I should do is get some dock rash on the sides and run into some rocks ASAP. It won't look perfect forever.

Scratches and dents go with the territory. First ding hurts the most. But it does get easier.

an aluminum sled w/ out scars is usually a good indication of someone that doesn't fish enough or use it as intended.

Kind of like having a pickup without scratches in the bed!

My kid crashes into the side of my boat and cars all the time with his bike. the first one hurts the most then after awhile it just becomes comical relax its not an investment but rather a depreciating asset that you must use up befor its gone. 5 years from now it will probaly look pretty good considering what its been through and if you are selling it the buyer will be most concerned with the motor and excessories used to get back to shore.

Yep, you never forget your first. A ten year old boat with no dents or gouges is just a total waste of a boat's life.

The day I picked up my new Wooldridge at an unnamed marina, it already had a big dent in the bow. Looked like they tried to run it up on the trailer and hit the winch roller with the port side. The rest if em' came a lot easyer.

Honda used to sell huge bandaid stickers as a promotion for a new dirtbike they came out with. Im not sure but Honda motorcycles may still be able to order them.
