Mikie
Cool that you landed Steelies on pom poms. By the way, what color were the pom poms that you used?

I didn't think that the river was floatable at those levels - - I drove by today and all I saw was bottom, bottom, bottom. Were you in tidewater, or banking it?

WTG, nice clear water catches Mikie! These posts remind me of Friday night at the Rose Garden. The Blazers played so bad all I watched was pom poms and bottom bottom bottom. Hey Mikie, I haven't used pom poms for steelhead yet. I think it was one of Mark's tips for the Holdzit contest. Where did you get, or how did you make, pink pom poms? Thanks. I have a whole bag of 5/8" diameter orange/yellow yarn balls that may be similar. I use them on occasion to soak in egg juice and shrimp oil and fish them with eggs and Spin N Glo in real murky water. I haven't tried them for clear water though. - RT

Hey RT. You can get pom-poms at your local craft store. They come in all sizes and colors. The ones that tricked these two were pale pink and about the size of a number 10 corkie.By the way once you juice them up with shrimp oil they resemble a natural egg . So next time you see a goffy looking guy coming out of craft world with his waders on ; and a smile on his face youll know why .

Mikie,

Got a few questions for you. What are pom-poms? I've never heard of them. How do you fish them (drift or float)? Also, how did you catch the other steelhead? Drifting or floating? In the lower Alsea during low water conditions, I have a hard time finding enough current to drift my gear on the bottom. I'm making a trip out there tomorrow, so that's why I'm asking. Thanks.

I gave the lower Alsea a try today. I didn't catch a single thing. Tried everything imaginable but no strikes. Oh well. It was raining all morning so that made me smile. It's been a very dry fall. I even got a suprise on the way back over to Corvallis...... snow!

Okay Mikie

After some soul searching I can understand the pom-poms but don't your legs get cold wearing those short skirts?
