Default Jim Conway

What ever happened to Jim Conway? Is he still around? I wish someone would get ahold of his old shows and air them again. It would be nice to have a chance to watch how fishing was in a different era in a simpler time.

You know, back when there were actual shows about salmon and steelhead fishing consistently.

What's the poop?

Yes the version of the story i heard was that "lucky jim" drove his suburban off the cliffs at cape horn on the washington side of the columbia river gorge.
I agree i'd love to see his old shows on the air or even obtain copies of them. I remember one winter steelhead show he did on the Kalama. They caught a couple fish and cooked them right there in the river. They ate it with their fingers and it looked like the best meal a person could make I could almost taste it through the TV. I know I could smell it!

I have a book he wrote many years ago on steelhead fishing. It is a paperback and very dog eared, I still read it all the time. Its so funny because I was thinking the same thing the other day, while wishin I was fishin.

Oh man, that's unfortunate. How long ago did this happen? Accident? heart attack?

Anyone know who owns the archives to his shows?

Lucky Jim, was dying of cancer, after a life time of fishing, hunting and hockey and being active the thought of slowly wasteing away was unbearable, I met him several times while shooting film on the Clackamas...I guess the last time I saw him was in the early 70's...KGW should have the films in archives...

Lucky Jim. I met him several times back in the early seventies. I am looking at one of his books I bought back then, "Jim Conway's Steelheading Guide". It has maps and articles of his favorite 22 rivers to fish. One of my old fishing friends Andy Menefee is pictured a few times. I also enjoyed his fishing shows. Wasn't fishing simple in those days? I can remember only using 4 different colors of hotshots, oakies, eggs or shrimp and corkies. Didn't need anything else to catch fish.
