At one in the 70s ihad a large collection of knifes mosty pocket and large folding hunters. be careful cleaning them as you can ruin the value if not done right, some are very hard to clean. Yes i have heared of Little. He was aknife maker of some Renouned.

Re: old hunting knives, collectors?
the oldest folder is as far as i know pre 1900. appears to have black lacquer grip panels, pre bakalite. great great grandfathers i think, but could be older. with a patten pending mark it is a first generation folding pocket knife

Re: old hunting knives, collectors?
G Little could be Gary Little from Broadbent OR, near my hometown Baltz. My dad has a folder that he made, and I had a knife made for a friend of mine as a wedding present. I've also seen him at the Portland Knife and Gun show a couple times. Nice guy, and he does some pretty impressive work.
His company is Conklin Meadows Forge, and his # is 541-572-2656.

Re: old hunting knives, collectors?
My favorite knife is a Case bulldog I inherited when my grandfather passed away. My dad gave it to him thirty years ago and has the same knife. It's a great skinning knife and holds and edge well but it is not a locking blade so fingers beware.

Re: old hunting knives, collectors?
He makes awesome knives! I spoke w/ him many years ago at one of the G&K shows about tempering and such. Very nice guy!
Does anyone here dabble in making knives? I used to make them years ago but gave it up when I moved to PDX. I still have a box of shaped drop point blanks somewhere. These were intended to get slab side bone and antler but never got around to grinding edges and tempering before we moved.

Re: old hunting knives, collectors?
As a kid I made a few out of files and stuff, but they mostly went the way of other kid things like throwing them at stuff and ruining hours of work in a second. I did a little reading on it to understand the mechanics of temering and hardening, but never got up the ambition to build a forge, and for some reason Dad was never too keen on setting me loose with the acetelyne torch.
I'd be very interested in building one or more someday. I've been lucky enough to wander through Gary's shop when I was maybe 12 while my dad was picking what he wanted on his knife. Amazing stuff, especially for a kid fascinated with knives. I believe he was making his own damascus steel at the time, but I don't know if that's still the case.
Funny story about my dad's knife. I don't know how much it cost, but I know it was a lot, and my parents are not big spenders (at least not while the kids were home). About a month after he got it, he was building a fire at a running camp where us kids were for a week in the summer. I guess he was making some kindling or something, and he set that knife down, forgot about it, and lost it. One of the kids found it and gave it back to him, and I don't think it has left the dresser since. That's the problem with a knife like that, it's almost too nice to use.
Baltz, if you've got a picture of that knife, I'd love to see it. I'll talk to dad and see if he can round up the old catalog that he got when he bought his knife.

Re: old hunting knives, collectors?
Ok Baltz, here are a few from my "collection".
Left side, top to bottom: Klein Tools screwdriver/knife, "Hammer Brand" horse hoof tool (I think) by New York Knife Company, Camillus Cutlery 3 blader.
Right side: Boker 4 blade, Ulster Boy Scout knife, Railroader knife, Continental Cutlery, and an old rusty Case found on a dairy.
A couple shots of Dad's Gerber set out of the sheath:
And in the sheath's. The chisel looking thing is a combination bone breaker and knife steel.
And the last one is another Gerber that is Dad's as well.
It has a broken blade lock, and is pretty much unuseable because of that. I contacted Gerber, and they said they don't have parts to repair it, but they would be happy to replace it with a new knife. Uh.... no thanks
Not many of my knives are in perfect shape, but I like the fact that each of them has a story. Some of them were owned by my grandparents on both sides, and some were given to me by folks that know I collect them. One of my favorites is an Old Timer of my dad's that has one blade broken off, and the other two have been sharpened down so much that you can't tell what the original shape of the blade was.

i found a gerber pixie like your dads two knife set, only with a crome handle. always wondered what the set looked like. and i use the same type schrade flat steel. if anyone lost a gerber pixie out of their set, in the silver lake unit. tell me where and i'll get it back to them.

Re: old hunting knives, collectors?
all my knives are used, and they show it, so they are in the old hunting knife catagory. i have two of the schrade 152 sheath knives. they are used for skinning. with the matching schrade flat steel, in sheath. the 152 was marketed as the sharp finger in the 70's
