Default WD-40 on tires, is it safe?

I was repacking the bearings on my trailer today and used some WD-40 on the tire rims to remove old grease that had spun out of bad dust cap plugs. Unfortunately, some (okay a bunch :depressed: ) of WD oversprayed onto the tire. I wiped it off and it realy shined up the tire. The question is, will it cause the rubber to deteriorate or crack? If it does, is there anyway to stop it?

Thanks,
James

Don't worry about it.

I use charcoal lighter fluid on a paper towel to clean grease off the wheels. It works better and doesn't leave any residue.

Brakeleener works wonders on everything, just don't get it on anything painted..it will peel the paint. But like Matt said don't worry about the WD!

I use it on motocross tires, hasn't killed a tire or tube since wd 40 came out!

Putting WD-40 on tires improves performance. Apply enough and even a ford can peel out!

If it keeps out the o2 and ozone it should preserve them too. Better for tires than grease, that's for sure, but grease is pretty benign too. The oil in the grease can soak into most rubbers.

Get some tire shine and wash the WD off with that if you want, but I wouldn't bother. The oil in WD will evaporate fairly quickly leaving just parafin behind. That's why WD kinda rusts proofs stuff somewhat..

The only problem with brake cleaner is that it carries all the grease to the ground, which unless I'm at the boat ramp, is my driveway or the street. That's just moving the mess to another place I don't want it.

Cool......I kinda like the way it shined up the tires and took all of the grease off.

Thanks,
James

For cleaning grease and tires.Or most anything else for that matter.Get some Super Clean. It comes in a purple jug.Works awesome. And is water soluable.Environmentally friendly.About $5 or $6 a gallon.

Be careful with it around paint.Dont let it sit to long on painted surfaces.
