Default Sturgeon in December?

My fishing buddy and I are thinking of going sturgeon fishing in the Columbia this Saturday. Was thinking of putting in from Sauvie Island and trying around Columbia City.

I've never fished for sturgeon at this time of the year so don't know if we're wasting our time or not. (is fishing ever wasted time?)

So.... is anyone still catching sturgeon?

Irontrader-

Folks are still fishing sturgeon and they're catching some, too!

Columbia City is probably as good a location as most in the lower river.

Successful anglers are using sand shrimp and moving around to find the biters rather than sittin' and waitin'.

Let us know how you do.

Don't forget your Magic Thread to wrap your sandshrimp with because those underwater buzzards will pick apart your bait.

Columbia City has been fairly good. The gorge has been faily decent for keepers out of The Fishery. Take a little squid along with the sand shrimp. I did fairly well on eel two weeks ago up at The Fishery.

Hey guys, don't give up on the gators. It's prime time from now until end of March. Any old bait will work but Cowlitz smelt is best. If they don't bite, move. Sturgeon fishing is like real estate, Location, Location, Location.

There are a few places where fish hold and where they move through. Invest in a pair of binoculars and a GPS. Once you locate a spot watch the other fishers and be enlightened. Sometimes a change in location of as little as 20 ft can make a skunk into a limit. Watch a hog line and learn this truth. We use the kicker in reverse, a huge anchor and the GPS plotter to hold on the spot in any tide or current.

Location, Location, Location. Good luck at church.

The bend is your friend!
