Default Trade-a-Trip is working! Please use caution!

For everyone that's using the Trade-a-trip board, hopefully you're all getting to meet some new friends and exchange fishing stories. I've been contacted myself via e-mail by 3 different folks and I'm sure we're going to get some trips traded.

I would like to offer a word of caution on trading. Some folks have offered goods and/or money in exchange for a trip. Don't get me wrong, the gesture is fine and I'm sure you mean well. However, in order to receive goods or money in exchange for a service, you need to be an Oregon licensed guide. This is then a means of income and you are expected to have the insurance and training or experience to provide what you're being payed for. This is also how the guides make their livings and it's not politically correct to invade on that in this manner.

If you trade a trip, once the trip's arranged you can split the gas, buy the shuttle, pay for the bait, or whatever. That's then between the two (or however many) who are working the mutual deal. Offering over the WEB is a bit tacky and I would not want to see the board removed.

You can call me a party pooper or whatever, as this is just my point of view on this, but let's try to stay ethical. For those who may be the ones offering the goods, I'm sure you meant no harm and may not be aware of the legal aspects. It won't reflect on iFish as far as I know, but it could certainly have implications on a traded trip that maybe doesn't go as well as originally thought.

Well put Troutmyster. I didn't notice your post here until I had posted my own message to that effect over on the trip trade board. I could just see some overzealous Trooper using it as a set up to pad the state coffers and procure a feather for their hat.

Thank you! I just posted a header on the board. I hope it helps. Did I word it correctly?

Sorry about that post for $ or gear. Meant no harm. Did not realize the implications of offering $.(illegal)

It is good to see that people monitor this board closely.

Board is great. Would not want to damage reputation.

Jennie- good caution line you added to the trip-trader. Hopefully folks will read it. I read Wild_hawg's reply also, he and I must have been thinking the same thing at the same time. I would hate to see someone get hosed just trying to be a buddy. RKD already found one of those types, though maybe not through trip-trader. We all need to be cautious all the time these days.

Smokywhal'n, I was sure you had good intentions and was just trying to make a generous offer for a fishing trip exchange. No harm taken by anyone I'm sure. Again, what folks do in their trucks or garage to settle a trip exchange is up to them, but I'd sure be careful about it. As well, although I'm not a guide, I really hate to see folks taking money out of their pockets...they need to eat too! Good posts and hope everyone has good experiences with potential new fishing friends.
