Default Flaming Turkey Surprise

I told this story to Jennie and she thought it would be funny to post since some of you have commented on Tillamook Sporting Goods. The day after Thanksgiving I got to witness the ownner of Tillamook Sporting Goods cremate a turkey in his turkey fryer, it was hilarious. He put it in the oil and then got busy with customers. Next thing you know it was flaming turkey surprise! Smoke was just rolling out of it and all the employees manning fire extinguishers were trying to put it out spraying fire retardant on the barrel of rods nearby. The fire department and police arrived after it was out, they got a good chuckle out of it too. No one was injured and no real damage occured except to one very well done turkey.

That's why you NEVER leave hot oil unattended when you don't have a thermostat controlling the heat. He's lucky all he burned was the turkey. Those fire extinguishers make a real mess. I had a fryer at work that developed a crack in some of its internal insulation, oil got down inside it, and it caught fire. Luckily, we got it with the fire extinguishers before the Ansul fire suppression system kicked in. That would have shut us down for two days at least. Instead, it only took a couple of hours to clean up, and we didn't have to shut down. What a way to spend your Thanksgiving.
