Default Snipe?????

All right Gone Fishin'. I recently purchased an upland bird tag and they asked if I had hunted for other birds last year. One of the bird species they asked about was Snipe? After eating crow for months now, did I just find out there really is Snipe???? I am confused. RW

Yes their is a snipe, they kinda look like a dowidger(sp?). A real small shore bird, long legs sharp beak and real noisy.

Howdy,
Snipe indeed are delicious, however, they are much to delicate to go after with a scattergun. Stalking them at night with a salt-shaker and a gunnysack is the preferred tradional method. A few sprinkles of salt on their tail renders them flightless and vulnurable to a good gunnysacking. Enjoy all nature has to offer!!

O.K. so there is a bird named Snipe, the joke is just how you hunt them? Marty had me so convinced that you really bagged them in the dark, etc. etc. etc! I thought the joke was there was no bird at all, let alone hunting them at night!!!! Oh well, if we can't make fun of ourselves who can we make fun of? BTW RT; I am sure there will be a chance to fish this winter, we just need rain! RW

There is indeed a snipe and along the Gulf Coast thay are a favored target. They are small and delicate bit not any more than a dove. They are a delicious game bird and I wish I knew where to hunt them with success here in the Great Northwest.

Once, while hunting duck on Littly Muddy Creek near Shedd, I watched one little snipe land 100 yards outside of our blind. The ducks had stopped flying so I unloaded the size 2's and filled the gun with 4's (8's are a little hard to find in steel) and this mighty hunter set out after that 5oz bird. Just as I reached the area the snipe had landed in, the ground literally exploded with snipe taking flight. Once I got over the initial shock, I was able to drop 7 of the little suckers with three shots. Never in my life have I seen them congregate like that in a non-refuge setting... Joe

Man I will buy you some fried chicken if you please stop eating crows. That's like eating seagulls or pigeons, right Osprey?
