Default Tip O\' the Day

From the November issue of "Sea" magazine.

Q: How do you keep a boay's water tank from freezing when cruising in cold weather?

A: Try pouring a little cheap gin or vodka in the water tank:It won't freeze and it's virtually undetectable in trace amounts. One quart diluted with 40 gallons of water will usually do the trick.

I just went out to the boat and tried this. I only have a 20 gallon tank, but I figured, "what the heck." When I tasted the water I realized that there must have been only a gallon or two of water left after my last trip. That was gooooood water.

You should pump the water out and fill with 20 gallons of the good stuff that will keep you from freezing
