Here's a good start. I think Pearl had a recipe in there. If this thread don't make you hungry, I don't know what will

You need to pick up this fabulous book. It's called: Barbeque Bible: Sauces, Rubs, and Marinades, Bastes, Butters and Glazes. It's by Steven Raichlen who wrote the Barbeque Bible. It's a paperback and only costs $12.95. It has so many good things in it. We've had it for a couple years now and have'nt begun to get through them all because we keep going back to the ones we tried the last time because they are all so good. Gives you the rubs to start with, the glazes to use while it's cooking and the sauces to dress it with at meal time. It has all the recipes for seasoned salts and peppers too. It's 8:00 in the morning and my mouth is watering.

Season it well and cook it a long time at a low temp. I put mine in at 1100pm on "smoke" and it will bw ready tomarrow at about 300pm. It should fall apart.

I like to use Paul Prudhommes bbq Magic for the main seasoning. It seems to give it a good flavor and a nice "bark" on the oustide.

When its done, get an ax handle and keep it near the grill to back everyone away.

Another book that you will enjoy and is better suited for slow cooking is "Smoke & Spice: Cooking with Smoke, the Real Way to Barbecue" by by Cheryl Alters Jamison, Bill Jamison.

I have used this one even more than the BBQ Bible. The recipes are outstanding.

Here's a dry rub that is great with beef or pork.
2 cup sugar
1/4 cup paprika
2 teaspoons chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 cup salt
2 teaspoons black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
( I leave out the cayenne because my ulcer won't handle it.)
combine all ingredients and use as a rub for any barbeque meat.
I rub mine and cover it in a glass dish and plastic wrap.
The longer you let it sit the better the flavor comes out( I do it overnight).
I was born and raised in K.C. and back there we barbeque just about ANYTHING!
Hope it helps.

I'd leave the cayenne pepper in! Cayenne has been used as a homeopathic remedy for healing ulcers. Nice rub recipe!

I just ordered the BBQ Bible...

Thanks for the heads up on the book STG-Rule.... I had seen this before but given the many positive comments, I finally broke down and ordered it for a whopping $4.73 from Amazon.

I purchased a traegar 4 months ago and I lived in Texas for a couple tours of duty and I am surprised it took me this long to get a BBQ that is of Tragar's quality.

The Baby Back Ribs I have done on there have been fantastic and I am looking forward to my 1st brisket on there.....

How about a pulled pork recipe or 2

What a great thread

Go to wal-mart (I hate that store), they have the cheapest brisket by far!
