Default Virus Alert

iFishers: Just had this show up on my system from my brother in law. No, I haven't seen it and don't have any virus I'm aware of.

If you get a mail message saying "Upgrade Internet2", DO NOT OPEN IT! Delete off your system completely. It has a worm virus that will destroy your hard drive!

Nothing to do with fishing...but we all depend on these PCs to get to this board...and a virus is a bummer to get rid of.

This is a must read for people who are afraid of these hoax viruses: http://www.datafellows.com/news/hoax.htm
The real virus exists in being a nuisance, and taking up bandwidth by the spread of these bad jokes.
This particular hoax is listed on this page.
The rules: Simply don't open anything unless you know someone.
PLEASE don't e mail these to everyone you know. Please, read the attached url. It will set the record straight in many cases.
Thanks,
Jen

Hi Jennie, Good site, I bookmarked it for later use. I received this warning this morning and I couldn't find it on the site you posted.

Perhaps a virus warning page is in order to compliment the Trip-Trader? LOL

VIRUS NOTIFICATION

1. W32.Prolin.Worm

The W32.Prolin.Worm uses Microsoft Outlook to email a copy of itself

following subject line:

A great Shockwave flash movie

The email consists of the following message:

Check out this new flash movie that I downloaded just now ... It's
Great Bye

The worm then moves all .jpg and .zip files to the root folder. It
renames each of these files and appends the following text to their
extension:

change atleast now to LINUX

W32.Prolin.Worm is also known as the following:
- Troj_Shockwave.A
- Creative

Well then, there you go! It must be a real one! Don't open it! Of course, I never open anything unless I know the person really well. Sometimes not even then!
Yuck!

Please note that many viruses spread by capturing someone's address book. Viri like "I Love You" spread this way and appear to come from someone you know. Just because you think you know the sender does not ensure avoiding viri.

The most important thing you can do is install a virus protection program, update the definitions weekly and keep it actively running and screening all incoming files!
