Re: Hufnagel knot??
Geez, I Googled the heck out of the internet and drew a blank. Apparently the Hufnagel knot is popular for saltwater fishing, but I couldn't find out how to tie it.

Re: Hufnagel knot??
I Googled, MSN'd, Yahoo'd endlessly with no reference to a knot...several references to a moth in Great Brittian though

Re: Hufnagel knot??
I, too, did a bunch of searches. Found (1) reference to the Hufnagel Knot. No instructions on how to tie it though.
Read under Tarpon Fishing.

Re: Hufnagel knot??
My experience as well.
Mark Sosin referred to and showed it. It is a loose loop that presumably won't interfere with a lure's action but he didn't show how to tie it.

Re: Hufnagel knot??
Might be simular to a know used on tippets and dry flys. Makes a loose strong knot. Hope this helps.

Re: Hufnagel knot??
I can tie it. Really. I'll try to talk you through it.
The huffnagle is used to join a class tippet to a shock tippet. First, tie a bimini twist in the class tippet. If that doesn't scare you, then let's keep going.
Lay the shock tippet end along the doubled section of the bimini. Using a tiefast knot tool or similar, tie a nail knot with the shock tippet around the doubled strands of the bimini. Snug it down, and pull the doubled line through the nail knot until the nail knot is snug against the bimini knot. then, with the doubled stands of the bimini, tie a half hitche around the shock tippet, and pull snug. Repeat. Then hold the strands of the bimini down along the shock tippet, lay them over the shock tippet, and then make five turns around the shock tippet inside the loop that that makes. Pull the slack out of this, but don't snug. This next step is the tricky part. Right now, you should have a stretch of the class tippet laying straight along the shock tippet, and five turns inside that. You want to transform this into the straight part becmoing twisted around the shock tippet and the interior part, while the interior part straightens out. You do that by sort of twisting and working the knot. You twist the outside of the knot in the direction that the inside was turned around the shock tippet, and then pull the tag end around in that same direction. Continue until you have essentially a little nail knot, tighten, snug, and trim.
Easy.

Re: Hufnagel knot??
I found that Homer Rhode loop at this very interesting site.
Sosin and that Tarpon guide distinctly said Huffnagle knot but I think the other will certainly work.
Thanks
