Default Okie drifters?????

I spent much of my drive on the way home from the Tillamook area streams trying to find some Okies. Doesn't Luhr Jensen make them anymore? Kimmels,Tillamook Sporting Goods,Nestucca Valley, Hank's and two Bi-Marts had none!

I'd try GI Joes or Fisherman's in Portland.
I bought some at GI Joes a few months ago, I'm sure they still make them. Good luck in your search.

I've been told by a friend that Luhr Jensen has quit making them. Not enough people wanting them. This news is two years old. I really like them for drift fishing Steelhead, i'm going to miss them.

Don't worry. Last time I went to get some gear, I saw a lot of okies. Somebody must be making them.

I spoke to Buzz Ramsey at the sportsmans show and he said they quit making the because the molds were wore out, and the cost to replace the molds are to much at this time.
In my oppinion it couldn't hurt to drop an EMail to them, because thos pearlesnt pink were a kick a*# lure.

Pearlesence okies haven't been made for over ten years since they switched to styrofoam. I was able to buy several bags of plastic ones which I custom paint . I would trade some for large size Ray bobbers or hard wing orange/chartuese glogos.

The only "vintage" drift bobbers I have is some Birdies from when they first came out. I bought quite a few of them back in the 80s when Luhr Jensen first introduced them. I have only one glo-go left.

Fishoman is right, the styrofoam Okies have been out of production for several years and it's been over 20 since they made the hard plastic ones. You can still find a few on the shelf, but they are usually the larger size 3. The old hard plastic size 2 in flame or sunrise were absolute steelhead killers.

Grab all the Birdies you can find because they no longer make those either. It won't be long until your only choices will be Corkies or Cheaters.

Found some old style #3 Okies on eBay. I have some old style Birdies that I would trade with someone for Okies if anyone is interested. I also searched through my tackle box and found a few old style Okies.

I have about 25 old hard plastic orange oakie drifters that I would trade for some large or medium ray bobbers. The oakies are in great shape in an old jar.

Big stew / O.Mykiss

Ray bobbers are a hard plastic boober that has a small lip that goes all the way around the boober about a third of the way down from the top. This gives it some awesome action in the water. Also, the bobber rattling against the hook makes noise. Rattles loud not like your typical bobber. I believe Luhr-Jensen bought them out many years ago, and discontinued making them. In my opinion, and many others, this was probably the best fish catching boober ever made for steelhead. I only have 3 left. I only use them where I know I am not going to hang up and lose them. Big Native Steelhead on the Peninsula love them. Ray Bobber and a big 4/0 Gamakutsu.Look Out!

Marty,

What do you think of Ray Bobbers? Do you have any left, what we called frosty colored ones. If you do, name your price.

Take Care, Rich

JEN!! How could you even joke about "offing" your little birdies?? Can it be that the long slow salmon season has turned you into a slayer of any critter that moves? Hmmm... I hope those last few chrome hawgs you've boated is enough to keep you from loading the BB gun

Lets see we need ray bobbers, Pink okies, hard wing glo gos and #35 clear sided hotshots. I have three large ray bobbers and I can't get myself to fish with them. My brother and some of my friends have a nice little stash of them, but getting them loose is gonna take more than Jennies bb gun. I did just get 100 pink okies from a closed tackle store estate....Only took ten years of searching to find them. The clear yellow plastic okies can be painted to look just like the pink ones . I was able to secure 200 of those in the original bag . I would be willing to trade a bag of those for a new 16' willie boat

Last year I e-mailed Luhr-Jenson about purchasing some Okies direct. They said they could make em but would take about a month before they could work it into the schedule. I had to order 100. I don't remember the cost but i think it was between $20-40. They still make them but only for their pre-tied Okie set ups.
