Man Overboard
Anybody ever loose a fishing/boating companion over the side of the boat?
In my boating experience I have had 2 people get unvoluntarily wet. First was a buddy while in my drift boat. We were anchored in a small river drift fishing. We were in about 3 feet of calm water when he got his feet crossed and just fell out of the boat while trying to cast. It was about 25 degrees and he went completely under. Brrrrrr.... The second was my wife at Lake Lytle. Wife was standing on the dock holding the boat. As the boat slowly moved away from the dock, the wife eventually found herself in the precarious position of being stretched between the dock and boat in a horizontal position. She would not let go of the boat and her feet would not leave the dock. She ended up face down in the water.
Both people were rescued after a few snickers slipped out.
Tell me your man overboard stories since it is drift fishing season now.

Re: Man Overboard
my wife and I and 6 other driftboats were were on the john day a few years back. we had stopped for lunch and were getting ready to go when the wife says "stay in the boat I will push us off the beach" I should of known right then and there I was in trouble. everyone had pushed off but us. she gave the boat a hardy push and jumped for the front of the boat,OOP'S now I have my wife hanging by one arm and one leg from the front of our boat she was looking back at me and for those who are married you know the look you get when you are in trouble. all I saw was her arm and leg go over after that. once she was in the water, there were 13 people just looking at her soaking wet not one of them said a word for fear of her wrath. she stood up looked at everyone and said "you can all laugh now" and they did as you might expect she gained a few nicknames the even made signs 1-10 and held them up to show her diveing ability as you have probably have concluded I didnt laugh much once she got back in the boat.

Howdy Bait!
Hey, I really don't have a good one I can think of right off, I'll think about it.
But heck, I couldn't help but notice your new signiture there - I agree whole heartedly, it sure is a lot easier clipping full grown adult fish than those itty bitty ones at the hatchery. I'll fish downstream from you any day!!!

Re: Man Overboard
BOE,
We have never lost a person over (yet). The closest we have come though was at Point Dalco in Puget Sound. My brother was reaching out to hook up a downrigger when his foot slipped. He was almost to the water when we grabbed him, the look on his face was priceless. Pure panick at the thought of going over head first. All he could say was "you need to put anti-skid down"

Maybe he means "Clip" the line instead of handling the fish and ripping the hook out of its mouth! HMMMMMMM?

BOE:
The heat is on, you renegade! You are a baaaaddd man. Shame on you for making such a tasteless attempt at humor. Think of all the young fisherpeople that may be influenced by your recklessness. I am certain now, between Bush in the white house, and YOU on the BB, native fish runs are destined for immediate extinction!!
BTW, good point Spoons. Also a HMMMMmmm, I have seen a lot of fish with deformities from all sorts of injuries, maybe that steelie got nipped by a seal, or something? I mean, it could happen, couldn't it??? I just think there must be an explanation, what does somebody have to gain by clipping an adult fish?? That's like sawing the antlers of a buck if you had a doe tag....

Re: Man Overboard
Peter Mac,
You sound like my kind of guy. I love your signature by the way.
When all of the political debates were going on on this bulletin board, I really wanted to give my imput, however, I decided not to because I tend to lose control of my emotions when I am debating politics with someone.
I don't understand why people cannot see that the further our leaders pull this country away from the principals it was originally founded on, the further our society goes in the toilet.
I have seen politicians endorsed on this board that want to screw every hard working business owner out of more money and make it harder for us to do business with heavier regulations (ie: OSHA, EPA, DEQ etc.) I am for protecting our enviroment. BUT THERE HAS TO BE A BALANCE!!!!!!!!!!! We also have to protect jobs and people and we need to get rid of systems where people are not held accountable for their mistakes.
I am so sick of the government telling me how I need to run my business and how I need to raise my family.
Personally, (considering what is going on with Gore right now), I would be embarrased to death if I had made it known that I endorsed and supported that cry-baby sore losing idiot. Bush probably isn't the answer to all of this country's problems either, but at least the guy has integrity (Oh I forgot integrity doen't matter anymore)

lost my dog over once, she jumped out after a muskrat. I had to row like mad to catch up with her. She only did that once.

Re: Man Overboard
I have been on the receiving end of the water tour twice. Once on a 180 my brother did while in the salmon boat and the other while I was on the sticks in the Calawah . You should hear my buds when I tell them to let me row . I am not as fearless as I use to be!!
Both times I was lucky and had nice weather for my unexpected dips. And both times I was sitting on my life jacket....whoops. I had to push the boat off my head when I was pinned by the raft in the river. Only barfed water a couple times. Broke three poles, lost one rod/reel and my $450 persciption sunglasses
BTW the game department gives nasty fines for clip and release.
Ah comeon let me row!!....Please

Re: Man Overboard
It is sad but true, this is from the native run on the Nestucca last spring:
You can see the adipose was recently removed on this fish! This is absolutely pathetic! If I ever see someone on the river do such a stupid thing........
And, I know Roy is only kidding! But it really isn't a good joke.

Re: Man Overboard
From all the good input I've seen from and heard about Roy I'm sure he was kidding. How do ya like the feel of being a criticism target Roy? Fun huh. Especially if you were taken wrong. Been there done that. .... The only guy I ever dumped out of a boat was my own father Accidently. I had anchored my driftboat in about 2 1/2' of water in the upper part of a long drift so I got out to wade down to the tailout while Dad and friend fished from the boat. I sandwiched a broken leader lost winter steelhead (trying to keep it from running out the tailout down the rapids) between 2 snag breakoffs, so I waded a bit angry up to the boat and absentmindedly stepped in the low side while my Dad was standing intently watching his oakie drift along out the strong side. This caused him to tumble backwards and right over the weak side into a beautiful flat bodyflop. I've never seen someone get up and almost walk on water but he sure came close! It wasn't funny at the time because the air temp was below freezing and it was a long way to the Farmer Cr. takeout. Hypothemeria concerns hit. I was just getting ready to do a fast row for the takeout when the farmer on the property walked down and invited Dad up for a dry off and put his wet clothes in the drier. Thank God for people like that! - RT

I believe Scott Amerman has a story to tell but I will let him tell it. Remember two Springs ago on the S. Santiam?

Re: Man Overboard
I got excited and talked my fishing partner into jumping out of the boat before he was ready one morning before it even got light out. He hit his head on a sawn off stump and got a nice concussion and fell back into the river. He is tough and he scrambled up to the truck and grabbed something and when he got back he told me that all the other people putting in behind us were staring at him. I told him it was because he had blood trail down off his head, down and around his neck. He looked like a Haloween mask.
