Worth scouting for muleys?
Well, I gave up on Springers, Coho fishing is worthless, Halibut buddy can't go, slight chance of going for estuary sturgeon so I'm thinking of maybe making an early NE Oregon muley scouting trip. How large are the antlers by now, would they be fairly full grown? I'm sure they're still in velvet?
Thanks,

Re: Worth scouting for muleys?
I was in Fossil last weekend and they aren't fully developed yet. Rag horns just a little above the ears. BH

Big Bucks are quite large right now. I saw a prehistoric Blacktail the other day. Thought it was a mule deer in the Willamette valley. There is still growth to be had but the majority is probably already present. just my observations.

Saw 2 the other day 1 probably going to be a fork and the other was going for big dog status. Body size is also a good ref.

Re: Worth scouting for muleys?
been seeing lots of bucks headed for the high country summer range this week, crossing 97 headed west. the water is gone from the east side of 97, so they head west, for greener pastures, cooler higher ridges

Re: Worth scouting for muleys?
Was over there last weekend and saw a couple bucks. Forks just just forming.
Personally I think little can be learned right now. The bucks are not where they'll be come aug-oct. But I'm not gonna tell ya to stay home.
I WOULD NEVER DO THAT! Any day out in the woods is a good day. But w/ fuel cost what they are.......

Re: Worth scouting for muleys?
On my sales trips here in the last 3 weeks, I have seen many a deer, some forks, and some that have split, and 4 or 5 that well be 3 points, and bigger, south of La-Pine, east of Prineville, and east of Madress.
Company pays for the gass, so I use it.
