14 lb. (12 to 15 lb.) line, standard Wart in blue pirate color, one 2X strong treble hook extended off the bellyloop with a 1 1/4" bead chain. Use shrimp/anise scent. - RT - Oh ya, for a bait rig use 15 lb. leader with a 2/0 hook and a medium sized egg cluster. This will catch either fish too.

WW
Interesting question that can have multiple answers. I'll tell you what's worked for me these past several weeks with the lower water levels. I use a 1025S 8-17 rod that I spool up with 15# test. I tie on a 1/4 oz pink/white jig and put on a shrimp tail for bait. Using this set up, in the past month I've caught Chinook, Steelhead, Coho and Sea-run trout on the Wilson. It can be a lot of fun because you don't know what is going to be on the end of your line when the bobber goes down.

15lb main line, hot-n-tot, 12lb leader, #10 spin-n-glow 2/0 hook and a big ole sandshrimp or a good bait of eggs. If drift fishing use a slinky in place of the plug.

hey i have a couple of questions about steelhead fishing in the clackamas. I have a simple question about putting shrip tails on jigs! How do you do it, I have never tried? And where is a good place to fish near the mouth (under the bridge?). And are there many people already fishing for steelhead or is it pretty quiet out there? Any additional info would be appreciated. or

Adam,
Shrimp tail is fine. Use a small piece. I use fresh prawn. In two weeks you"ll be ready to roll in em'. The lower river can get some pressure. Go to Meldrum bar with a cup of joe and go shoot the breeze and check out the action. That is a good start to see if fish are moving. If big success is occuring try above the bridge or if you can go sneak up on the Gladstone side go to First Riffle. Usually boat ramp arrivals aren't much for talk in the cold months so even if they have had success some of that Portland area boaters will remain tight lip. Although some do like to brag. Not like it's a secret! Go up to Cross park and you will have success working the tail out. If the water comes up a bit work the Oregon City side in the tail out.

Good luck. I"ll be manuvering that way in a few weeks.

Here you go
Find the biggest treble hook get some pencile lead wrap the pencile around the treble untill enough weight is on there get on heck of a big pole with some 80LB DACKRON line and head for the river
I use #2 hooks with 10 main 8-10lb leader
double hook set up with a corkey in the middle and a big glob of bait

Work is for people who dont know how to fish
