Default Carrying rods in the drift boat in tow

Anybody have a good system for securing or carrying their rods in their drift boat while they are towing? Thanks.

Just kind of throw them to the back with the reels and butt section hanging out of the boat. Drive by my a house a few times without looking back. They will be just fine.

Jig, I suggest getting the rubber notched rod holders and attach them in a good place. Otherwise, use a bungee cord and towell to keep them in place and from getting scratched.

I always store mine in the back of my truck while in transit.I see guys with rods in their boat while driving to the river but I wouldn't even think of doing it.I keep all my fishing gear in my truck on the way to the river. It takes a little longer to get in the water but oh well.

Jigman
I have a sliding window in my truck that I poke my poles through when I'm traveling down the road. I put my canopy on in the winter and it keeps everything concealed and dry.

What I would do is put them in your boat then give me a call so that I may tag a long as they fall out or bounce out I will pick them up. After that I will make sure that they are stored in the right place (in my truck)

If you ask I will return them and tell you what a dumb as- you are for even thinking of putting them in your boat while in tow a quick stop for something can mean the lose of you fishing gear (TRUST ME I KNOW)

If you’re looking for ways to store them while on the river use RT method it is the best way I have found. It holds your rods in place in the worst of water. I have never lost a rod or any gear due to that

Have lost a fishing partner once while in some nasty white water

Jigman,
I personally prefer to keep the rods in truck on the way to the river. If I was to place them in the boat I would wrap them up in a burlap sack or towel and place them in the fish box. The fish box in my boat is secured under the seat. While travelling down the road you could'nt loose your gear.
Of course if you don't have a fish or storage box, omit that idea.
Good luck

I put my 2 piece rods in the front seat storage box. I lay them on the life jackets then place a heavy coat over them. My one piece plug rods or my other rods that are too long to put in the box get put int a rubber padded rod hold attached t my rowers seat. Then I hold them down with a bungee cord. I havent had a problem with either way.

Jigman,
follow the advice of most of the posts here and don't haul them in your boat. Most 8'6" rods will extend over the gunnel rail (at least he tips). When the trailer bounces, the rods will start bouncing too. Graphite will chip when banged against the gunnel or rail too many times and when you get a fish on, SNAP!!! I would keep them under a canopy, if 2 piece then inside your rig. The better you take care of your rod/reel, the better it will take care of you...
