I\'m a slob
I have a habit of leaving egg goop on my rods and reels and end up scrubbing all my gear for hours trying to get the stuff off. Does anyone have any suggestions on easier ways of getting the crusted goop off ?????

Re: I\'m a slob
I usually wipe that stuff all over my pants. It covers up that "skunk" ...
How about packing a towel to wipe your hands & knife on ?
Either way, you've got machine-washable items to clean, rather than your rods & reels !

Hi John. You're not alone on that one by a long shot. Spray on a little WD40 on your equipment and leave it on for a few minutes, then come back with a hot moist washrag and it should come off pretty well. - Steve

Re: I\'m a slob
Thanx for the info, I just got chewed out by Lamiglas for having all that goop on my rod when I took it in for repairs.

Re: I\'m a slob
Give your rods a "shampoo". Doesn't seem to matter much what kind, but it seems to take everything off and makes your cork grips look just like new! Warm water (the bathtub when your wife's shopping) works best and a soft bristled brush will pull anything stubborn loose.
Once they're clean, then use your waders from about the knees down. Wade out in the river to wash'em off. By the way, if you happen to wear rubber waders, watch the eggs on them as some egg cures will eat them up!

Re: I\'m a slob
The Lami guys told me to put wax on the rod, just regular carnuba car wax and thats supposed to make washing the rod a little easier. As for the reel I always carry a spare in case my standard gets too gummed up, then its off to Ollie Damons for a good cleaning and new drag washers.

Re: I\'m a slob
Who needs a towel when you can lick your hands clean before the goop gets on there? Tar and Bug B Gone work well. I don't suggest the car wax as for one of my bass rods got wax stains in the crevices/pores on it once.

Re: I\'m a slob
This is always a huge battle for me... I fish dozens of different rods each year and then sell them as demo rods.. I spend more time washing and drying my hands after I mess them up. Wax works OK but is very time consuming... WD40 works the best.... I have learned over the years to just slow down and clean my hands off.... then take 30 minutes when you get home and wash everything down with WD40 or soap and water. You will be surprised at how much longer you equipment will last.
(I always have 3-5 rags in my boat at all times)

Re: I\'m a slob
I've been useing windex window cleaner for years and it seems to clean up the rods pretty good with out any side affects. Spraying W spooo on the rod before use sounds
like a pretty good deal, I will have to try that a little more often. It also helps the ice to stay off your eyes in the winter.
Good luck, STRIKE ZONE
