Default Florence

Hello all. I am seeking information on the Florence bar. I don't think I have ever heard of anyone heading out from there. What is the bar like? Any other information such as bottom fishing spots or anything like that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

f~p

There was a pretty good thread on this a while back. I think it's this one:

Florence Launch

If that doesn't answer some questions at least it will give you some 'Dogs that might know. Good luck.

I live in florence and I do 3/4's of all my fishing in Newport.

The bar is one of the worst on the coast....plus there is no near-shore bottom fishing here to speak of. Good salmon fishing, and hali fishing but no rock fish or lings except for the jettys.

f-p, I fish Florence when conditions permit. Bar can be more restrictive than Winchester or Charleston due to shallowness and due west opening to ocean. Most who use it like the sparse crowds and decent dock facility. Free launch and $2 parking. I would look for conditions that include light to moderate swell predictions and minimal tide exchanges, like coming up this weekend and into the holiday.

I will be fishing out of Florence this weekend. Two more days until I will call it a for sure though. Water has to calm like predicted.

I heard they dredged it last year, but dumped the Sand, & muck too close, & it all drifted back in, & clogged the mouth...again. I talked to the Port of Sisulaw, Florence Chamber of Commerce, & the owner's of the South Jetty access, about peridoc dredging, as well as building a Boat Ramp closer the the Ocean, but nobody seemed the slight bit interested, Oh well I guess It's a retirement Town, & folks don't care about our fishing need's. Maybe some day they'll see all the revenue associated with Ocean fishing?
