Jig Storage
Can the jig experts out there help a novice float fisherman figure out a good way to carry jigs in my vest? Now that I've gone thru my vest umpteen times just for something to do until it rains, I've got everything dialed in except the ziploc bag full of purplish brown jigs that I carried around last year and never got around to using because the colors had all bled together after they got wet. Any ideas would be appreciated!

I'm far from an expert but I carry my jigs in the plastic containers that you can buy at most any fishing store. I like the ones that are about 6"x4" in size. They will hold several dozen and it's easy to access.
For wet jigs, I stick mine in a vest pocket and take them out at the end of the day. Even though the feathers may be matted due to scent being applied, they will still work fine once they get wet again.

Re: Jig Storage
I also keep my jigs in small plastic plano boxes. I don't wear a vest when jig fishing but have a fanny pack I carry them in. I have a peice of styrafoam double back taped on the inside of my truck that I hang the wet jigs on after the days fishing and they usually are dry by the time I get home, it works real well.

Re: Jig Storage
Being a virgin to Maribou jig fishing I would like to get a clarification. If I mix wet jigs together of a different color, the colors will bleed from the Maribou? I have had rubber jigs do this. What kind of jig are you talking about turning a lovely purplish brown.

Re: Jig Storage
fly boxes with the foam inside keeps my in perfect order and all the jigs are visable. try and keep your jigs dry or they will rust make sure you dry them out after a dunking. bigger boxes hold about 50 jigs

Re: Jig Storage
Bait-
It was marabou Bradbury jigs and in hindsight it was more my fault than the jigs because I didn't dry them after fishing. It's that fished all day, late for dinner, got to rush home to help with the kids syndrome and I don't always seem to have the time to pull maintenance until the night before the next trip. I'll take Jigmans advice and break them out for the car ride home. Thanks for the tips.

Re: Jig Storage
What I do is stick them on my visor of the truck at the end of the day and when I get home they are generally dry then I put them back in the Plano box like Mark and Jigman are talking about, another suggestion is to put them in small(2"x2")baggies after use,if you need some I have about 5000 of them,I tie my own gear and put them in the baggies for storage.John

Re: Jig Storage
I use the Plano box with foam in it also. After I use a jig I put it in one of my upper fishing vest pockets and leave it there until the next time I go and it dries on it's own, because I have the get home and take care of the wife and kids syndrome often too.

Re: Jig Storage
I use a fly box to store my marabou jigs. When I'm finished using a jig, I will hang it on the outside of my fishing vest to dry. When dry I place it back in the box. If it has been raining out, I will hang my vest up in the gararge when I get home and wait until the next day to store them.

Re: Jig Storage
Good storage box for jigs that is inexpensive to make. Use a plastic video case and glue in some foam and your set.

Re: Jig Storage
Fish Mag-
Where do you purchase the little 2" bags from? They sound good for storing leaders too.

I have never ordered from them but I know www.uline.com sells lots of plastic bags in various sizes. I just looked online and see where you can get 1000 2 inch square by 2 mil resealable bags for $18.00
love the video case idea.

Re: Jig Storage
I use a Luhr Jensen Leader Tote to store my jigs when fishing. I like the one with 6 pages and compartments on both sides of the page. Put 2 jigs in each and you've got 2 dozen ready to go. Always dry them and re-sharpen the hooks before storing.

Re: Jig Storage
Thanks for the kind offer Fish Mag. My Email should be sitting in your box as I type this.
Maybe I can return the favor someday.
