Default TUNA TIME...1st Timer on Friday

Well, I just got off the phone with BOC, and he said that I'm and idiot for lurking and not posting, so here goes.

Trying my hand at this Tuna gig Friday. Ocean predictions look good with a 5&2. Running a 22' NR Sea Hawk out of Depot if the weather stays consistent. I have read every post for the last two years on Tuna, and it looks like the fish should be here (even if we don't find the clean deep blue water). Anybody else taking the same read on the subject? I am hoping not to be the only tuna-aholic idiot chasing fish 40 miles out on Friday. It's a big ol Ocean, and it would be nice to know we have company.

Think positive!! Catch Fish!!

Thanks,
John

Welcome aboard, John, glad you've officially joined us. You won't be the first new-to-tuna Ifisher who's gone out and hammered 'em. Just ask Edsr in his tuna-killin' dory, and Bait'O Eggs and the BeerWagon guy what it's like to catch a bunch on the first trip. HoooooHaaaaa!

But tell us a little about yourself. How's your boat set up? What's your experience level with offshore fishing. And just as, if not more important, who ya wingin' with on your Friday run?

Let us get to know you.

Skein

Skein,

Well, first off it's my fishing partners boat. We fish together all the time, and I currently have a 20' sled, so we figured there was no point for either of us to duplicate the others ride. He bought the North River so we could take advantage of the offshore gig. The boat is 22' with a 250 horse Yamaha and a T8 kicker. We put on a Lowrance 111 GPS/Depth Finder, VHF radio, and we have hand held back ups for both. We have two Air Ride seats up front, with benchs behind, although we are talking about replacing the bench seats with coolers with seat cushions on top. There is a ton of storage under the bow, so the seat box/coolers would give us more room for fish.

As for me, I grew up fishing offshore in South Texas. We chased King Mackerel, Bonita (Little Tunny or False Albacore), Jack Crevalle, Amberjacks, and other great fish. I had never given the Oregon offshore fishing much thought until hearing more and more rummors about a Albacore Sportfishery. I spend alot of my time chasing Steelhead and Salmon when I am not working, but I have been Jonesing for the Deep Blue. I do run my sled out when its nice, but of course I never run far, and spend the majority of that time in the Tillamook Bubble.

By God, just being out there this weekend will be great. The fishing will be fantastic...just hope to fill that in with a tad bit of catching!

John

Nice to see you posting John

I know your a quite guy by nature, but this TUNA fishing thing is all about having fun, helping each other out, and filling the fish box. You get to know this crowd and you will have many friends over the horizon.

John lives about 3 houses from me, and I am sure will be slaying TUNA soon

If you find a tuna I am hoping for a phone call Friday evening
