Procure Brine change
I like to brine my herring in Procure's brine and brite. I bought some new today, and they have obviously changed the mixture. Anyone out there use both kinds and have any opinion on the change?

S-Hilton--- You've offered many sugestions to me (they worked I might add) So here's my two coppers worth------Don't sweat the brine change--MAKE YOUR OWN! Unless you have some kind of Rosetta Stone association with some kind of commercial blend?------

Re: Procure Brine change
Well, let's just say that, when something works, I like to stick with it. But that looks like that won't be a choice.
As to mixing my own, I do. The Pro cure brine is merely the first ingredient.

Pro Cure is not far from my house SH I could run down and see if they have any of the old stuff left or find out the difference for you.

Re: Procure Brine change
Hey, if you're out and around, that would be great. I'm going to give them a call next week. Let's see what they say, and I'll PM you.
The old stuff was sort of brownish, and had sort of a fishy smell to it. The new stuff looks like egg cure, pure white.

Re: Procure Brine change
SH, I found in the past that some batches look white and some have some brown in them. After letting them sit in the garage for some time (mos.), they all turn very brown and seem to collect moisture in unopened packages.
Not saying there isn't a change, but this might be an explanation, you could have a very new batch.

Rick, that is great data. I'll pour a little out and see what happens.

Re: Procure Brine change
NRR is right on. The contents turn brown after they sit for a few months. Doesn't seem to affect the performance, but it is a little strange the first time you buy a white pack and then go to use it a few months later and it looks like someone added brown sugar to the mix.
