Broadhead stuck in elk antler (pic)
I was at the Pacific County Sportsmans Show this past weekend and the locals had brought in dozens of mounts. I found this one to be the most interesting and I found myself thinking.
A. This guy had the bull fever extremely bad
B. He shot across a clearcut hoping for a lethal hit
C. He hit a limb
D. He was trying to just knock it out, take a photo and keep hunting for something bigger

Re: Broadhead stuck in elk antler (pic)
I saw a set of mounted elk antlers at my friends uncles house that had a 30 caliber bullet lodged in it...in a very similar position to the broadhead. Someone obviously had been shooting way too far for the bullet to not shred through the antler.

Re: Broadhead stuck in elk antler (pic)
My step father shot a 6 point bull in Montana a few years ago. He must have flinched cause he hit the bull in the rack. The bull dropped instantly and was knocked unconscience from the bullet shattering the top half of the second brow tine.
When he walked up to it the bull was starting to come back to his senses. The second bullet found its mark.

To assume how the broadhead even ended up there is pretty rediculous to me. You will never have any idea, so to even speculate on taking a shot too far, headshots, or making a bad decision is plain out dumb. Who knows what caused it, but it should be looked at as a cool mount and nothing more.

Re: Broadhead stuck in elk antler (pic)
I missed a 5x5 couple of years ago from 35 yards in what could have been the same way. He knew something was there and was on full alert. When I shot he jumped back and down and turned to look at right me. The arrow hit off the antlers and went out of site, and so did that nice looking bull. I never thought I would miss one at 35 yards but I learned a lot that day and will be a better hunter for it. That is a very cool pic though and I am sure there is a great story to go with it.

obviously a horn hunter and not a meat hunter. Then again, that is an aluminum shaft so perhaps a newbie.... cheap broadhead also..... you can tell by the shine in the elks eye that it was spotlighted.

Re: Broadhead stuck in elk antler (pic)
Actually the story is,
The elk attacked the hunter, who was just able to defend himself with the arrow in his hands. His buddy shot the elk.
No, really...

Now Jim, that would be to assume that everyone on the board is not a "phorensic ethics expert".

Re: Broadhead stuck in elk antler (pic)
Reminds me of November 12 1984 in westbranch MI. I was bow hunting and rifle was starting on the 15 and this doe came in to about 30 yards and then a huge buck came in I mean Huge well over 200inches nontypical double droptine I drew and released and thit the beast right in the rack. LOL I actually cried like a baby after that for about a half hour. well on the 15 the guy next door to our property who had heard the story shot that buck with his rifle it was a 31 point nontypical with a thunderhead stuck right in the base. LOL still kick myself since that day I don't look at the rack until its on the ground. LOL
