Default ESPN: Anybody else notice.....

Did anybody else notice that ESPN was really planning on North Carolina winning the game?

To me it seemed pretty clear just from watching the clips at the beginning of the game. NC got twice the air time that OSU got. Same thing with the collage at the end...long NC clips then the final play and OSU celebrating. Oops....

Congratulations Beavers!

I noticed it before the series even started. They were picking them to Win it all early.

As a Beaver myself I can say this... Nobody expects the Beavers to win..

That being said; it's a great day to be a Beaver!

Mike Patrick was throwing in all sort of comments that led me to believe EXACTLY what you're talking about.

Good on OSU! Finally an Oregon team comes through and it was all heart, not money!!

They waited until pretty late to work in the story about Pat Casey's son...have to wonder whether that would have aired if UNC had been well ahead...heh, heh...

Just like the Tar Heels made errors and mental mistakes.....

so did ESPN in showing favorites in Carolina.

Go Beavs

That story about Casey's son was first aired on sports center when the beavs first made it into the post season. They only aired a small portion of the original that was shown a few weeks ago. I do have to agree that they were leaning toward UNC, but that is what a money school will do for ya.

The wife and I talked about that through the whole series. When NC was at bat the commentators talked about NC. When OSU was at bat they talked about NC. We finally figured that NC had pictures of the commentators with farm animals.

But give the beavers credit, they did not perform the usual northwest choke that all our teams usually do.

I wonder how many e-mails ESPN will get about this favoritism. Will probably fall on deaf ears.

Beavs win....in your face ESPN!

They always go for the bigger market team. They did not even mention in the whole series how huge a deal it is to have a northern climate team win the CWS.

I didn't notice much favoritism...there has to be a little, just because it's NC.

They aired the clip of Casey's son late in the game with the score tied 2-2...I'm sure they had a backup, but that clip was probably going to air regardless.

I thought it was a pretty fair share for both teams, Harold reynolds IMO was pulling for the beavs to win the game ever since he saw Jonah throw his last game.

I was rooting for the beavs the whole way, but can you blame ESPN? I wouldn't have put money on the beavs either. Did you guys see Bard pitch? 97-98 heat like he isn't even trying. The only time he got in any trouble was when he tried to throw a breaking ball. Yanked from the game so he wouldn't hurt himself. Heck, if they hadn't come out and talked to him in the 8th, he would have gone the whole game. And he isn't even the best pitcher on their team!

I loved that OSU won, they are an awesome story, but to think they should have been picked to win? Sorry.

Unbelievable finish to an unbelievable run. Really great CWS. Go Beavs!

Another thing that I thought was interesting was that Corvallis native, Harold Reynolds, stayed pretty neutral with his comments the whole series. I never once heard him give more praise to the Beavs than the Tar Heels. He seemed pretty unbiased to me. I wonder if ESPN put the binders on him not to get carried away with OSU "atta boys". Harold is a great color guy and he has always been a very professional sportscaster, but I thought some of that home town pride might have come out last night in his comments after the game. All in all, what a great College World Series from start to finish. All the Beaver players, coaches, and we can't forget that great trainer, derserve a great big congratulations for a job well done! GO BEAVS!

The reason Harold Reynolds stayed neutural is because he's a class act. The guy is always the voice of reason and concentrates on "the game", not everything else. He did a great job durng the series. Oh, and by the way:
GOOD JOB BEAVERS!!!!

Make sure and give ESPN credit for stepping up a few years back and promoting the College World Series. I would bet that they have dumped a lot of money into it before getting decent ratings share. Thanks ESPN! If we had to rely on the big 3 networks we would still be stuck watching the NBA.

GO BEAVS!

I thought ESPN did a pretty good job of showing equality. But, as mentioned before, UNC is a big East Coast School. A lot of people (outside of the Northwest) were rooting for North Carolina.

Good job Beavers. WOW!!!

I'm already looking forward to next season.

They mentioned (several times) that NC had 31 national championships and OSU had one...in 1961...for cross country. They kept waiting for the Beavers to pack it in but it never happened.
