Smoke Jumpers!

Just watched a great home movie. My wife's grandfather filmed smoke jumpers training in the late 40's/early 50's. Good stuff. I wish I had a way to post it. Both of her grandfathers worked for the Forest Service. One was instrumental in getting the Willamette Greenway established. He died last year. The other one made tons of movies.

Anyway, it looks like old WWII equipment, including the planes, modifed (i.e. repainted) for Forest Service use. Parachute practice was cool. They just jumped onto the airfield and put out a brush fire with shovels. We are now on our third or fourth generation of Smoke Jumpers. Hats off to them!

those would be some cool movies to watch. Guard those babies with your life, thats a priceless piece of history and I would imagine they might be worth something to the right person.

I'm in MT right now just south of their training base.
Was going to go up and have a peek but we're off to Cody, WY in the morning.

Family heirloom. Could never sell. But it's an interesting piece of history. We've had this thing since we got married sixteen years ago, and I just now got around to watching it. Good stuff.
