Default Baja pictures with story to come later

We still have un-packing to do so I'll start off with pictures. But just to clue everyone in-we spent the past 1 1/2 weeks in San Lucas Cove in Baja. The dorado fishing was GREAT, yellowtail kicked our butts with only getting a few fish, squid was fun as ever; and a major highlight-getting a billfish in the spread on a new-to-Baja parker center console.

Mexico or bust!

Bob(northriver 1) and Brian standing proudly infront of the parker 21SE on it's maiden Baja voyage

a beautiful morning in paradise

making bait one morning

Lee's hooked up

Biggest yellow to the boat

I've got a dorado on, that was the highlight of the trip

Brian with a nice Dorado

Lee standing proudly with one of his dorado. We caught many during the trip

Captain Bob holding his trophy

The boat on anchor in the cove

More to come later as the truck is unloaded

Flush Release-
Sorry, we had to bring your brother home. It was probably a major dissapointment on your side but his wife appreciated us bringing him home.

He kicked our rear-ends with the fishing but he is welcome on our boat anytime in the future

Other way around

His wife would have liked him to stay.

Think maybe it's the permanent smell of Tuna extruding from his pores that make him catch so many

Awesome pics and very nice fish!!! I've stayed at San Lucas Cove numerous times and those pics definitely brought back some memories. I've never been there in June. How hot was it? Catching YT and dorado on the same trip would definitely be cool.
nice work,
steve

For heat, it was in the high 80's to 90's, with humidity. Lots of humidity.

Awesome! I wish the ocean up here looked like that, you guy's didn't miss anything up here while you were gone. So what did the big Yellowtail/Dorado weigh?, & Did I heard mention of a Billfish? Look's like a trip of a lifetime, My vacation this week was mostly "honey do's" Next year we might join you guy's, My brother said he probably won't go, but I can borrow the boat.

the yellow was 31 pounds, and capn Bob's dodo was pushing mid 20's. We saw billfish and had one in the spread but no takes. Oh well maybe next year!

Fishwhenican's boat did a much better job catching the YT than we did. As for billfish they didn't even see one. If there was a dissappointment in the trip it was the billfish. They were not around as we only saws two for a weeks worth of fishing.

The fly open picture is priceless ... I can see it now

ESPN outdoors .....
This week's edition of The Spanish Fly with Capt Jose Wejebe .... is being pre-empted by a special showing of
"The Oregon Fly with Capt 'pants optional' Bob" Learn the secrets of trolling Oregon bannana slugs for Yellowfin and Dorado.

I'm not sure if that pic will make it into the travel brochure..

Glad you brought yourselves back home safe.

I heard that my Budda Head bud was the usual fish catching machine

The trip is about 32-34 hours counting stops for fuel for the truck and boats, grocery shopping, ATM for Pesos, and resturant stops.

The highway was in good shape, other than some rough cold patch between BOLA turn off and Guerro Negro. Not to mention the highway through San Ignacio, I think the mayor must have upset some bigshot, it is 5- 10 mph max thru town because of cold patch and potholes. The highway is narrow, I wouldn't reccomend it for any trailer over 8' (6" is a big deal when you have 9' lanes).

Gas was about 2.25 per gallon, if you don't take into account that gasoline compresses after leaving the nozzle at those latitudes, how else could you explain putting 22 liters into a 20 liter container. Otherwise, figure it was about $2.40 per gallon. Diesel about $ 1.95 per gallon. Fishing license 1 week $ 28, Boat permit $39,
FMT (visitor card) $26, club fees so you don't have to chase permits and licenses $39, Mexican insurance for newer pu and boat $331, seeing Reefdivers brother get inked by a squid Priceless

Brother Dave Or (Ink Man) was too funny! He was trying to get the Squid off his line when he pulled it partially out of the water pointed the sprayer directly at himself. (He was for warned by the crew NOT to point it at yourself)......Well...it nailed him with Ink! The Squid are full of this Ink Crap mixture and can spray it 10 feet plus! It looked like dark liquid at the end of the sewer processing plant but all over his Head, chest, and waist.
The crew was just rolling with laughter!

I'll get the camera back tonight and post the picture tomorrow.

Too much Fun!
Great Guys and Great trip!

I've seen that ink! It's the gooiest, slimiest, nastiest stuff I've ever seen come out of a fish.

How long did you have to drag him behind the boat to get it off?

After fighting to get the Squid off the hooks, we finally got smart, grabbed the knife and cut it's slimmy head off! Then you had bait for the next victim. It was fun when we targeted them but when you were fishing for yellowtail and the squid were stealing our live bait they become a pain in the arss!

That became our release method also. Take the knife out and slice away. Often times they will spray only water, but that ink does nopt come out too well.
