Roy, how can you be so optomistic about the tuna right off our coast, and so pessimistic about the weather? Saturday is a long ways off, the worm will turn...

Guy's Guy's Guy's take it easy on Roy, He needs a Tuna fix real bad. His eyes have been crossed while working on his trailer, the salt is getting real low in his veins and he's just not thinking strait. Moody, Irritable, don't touch him, sleepless nights, twitching, and some times depressed.
Roy, real soon you will be able to go get em

As an unofficial weatherman--lay off of Roy...he's right.
The "wind machine" is setting up oh so perfectly for this weekend, as much as I hate to say it.
I know, I know--killjoy...however if funds are plentifull, and you aren't as crabby as my friend Roy, go lay a hairy eyeball on the situation this weekend--otherwise, there will be better days soon.

Re: Any open seats this weekend??
I don't fish predictions. Many, many days the ocean is a lot nicer than is predicted for the afternoon. I've already had some beautiful days this year that were predicted to be not too nice. That being said, I pay a lot of attention to "trends". Study building and sustained seas and winds. Look at where the low pressure and high pressure areas are, and where they seems to be moving, or stalling out. If on either side of system, there's a chance the day may be just fine.
With Gale force winds predicted off of Gold Beach for later this week and this weekend, the farther North you go up the coast the better it will most likely be. There is a High Pressure area over the Olympic Peninsula, a High offshore of Oregon, and a severe low right on the coast of Northern Cal. Those winds will most likely continue to blow until that low pressure moves inland in NoCal.
Forecast wrong? Could be. I'll still most likely be taking a look, but I wouldn't have high hopes on this weekend.
Just like everyone, I look at the NOAA forecast...as a starting point. Then I look at wetsand.com, it is much accurate for a specific area. If I'm really wanting to know what is going on, I look at the wind and wave maps, as well as the weather maps that show where the highs and lows are, and how they are moving.

Re: Any open seats this weekend??
It's changed to 6 ft. now, but the worst prediction the NWS has posted so far for Sat. is 8 ft. windwaves. For me, they could be off by a factor of TWO on the 8 ft we prediction and it'd still be too rough for me to be comfortable out there! hate to say it, but I agree with Roy, it ain't lookin' good. Plus they have been fairly consistent. My only chance for going out seems to be that the high winds will occur in the aft. and the morning will have winds under 15 knots.

Re: Any open seats this weekend??
I have made the run to the beach every weekend to fish I have had a chance, against the prediction of the first halibut weekend when several guys stayed home I killed Halibut.
This weekend I dont see it laying down for us. I would like to get offshore and kill longfins, but my weather model has me mowing the lawn, walking the dog, and being Dad.
And this last week, I have resealed a window, installed a new wash down pump, installed a door latch on the boat where one was needed, replaced the cabin light, did a little welding on the boat, changed the oil in the lower unit on both motors, and should have new brakes on the trailer by Friday morning. I am due for some more ocean miles but dont think it will be this weekend.
