Default Tuna gear ? and info

I bought some of the "unamed brand" tuna feathers off Charkbait (2.49). They are the Pline Titan's currently offered at Gi Joes(5.99). They look like factory secconds but very usable.

My question is about hooks. I got 200's and 100's. For the 200's I bought the Mustad tuna hooks in size 22.

What should I rig the 100's with. The #22 hooks are bigger than the 100's. I was thinking about using a 3/0 or 4/0 treble hook, or maybe an 8/0 Gamakatsu circle hook.

What do the tuna masters(any one with experience falls into this catagory) think of Flourocarbon line? I was thinking of using it for my leaders but darn the manufacturers are proud of that stuff.

For the TC100's or any of the very small trolling feathers / jetheads, we like to use the 6/0 or 7/0 Mustad stainless tuna doubles.

part # 7982HSX

p.s. do NOT use a circle hook on a troll rig, and I would avoid a treble. You are better off using a larger single siwash, like a 5/0, if you can't get the hook I mentioned above.

Mark, how 'bout the fluorocarbon? Is that really necessary for trolling for albies?

Fluoro does have it's time and place but no need to spend the extra $$ if you're just dragging jigs.

Like "Ichiban" Mark-san said, just go to a smaller double hook on your smaller feathers and do stay away from treble and circle hook for what you want to do.......

They make doubles in all sizes-even 3's and 4's 5's and 6# which I redo on any lure with trebles. Another trick say on a zo zuri is to rubber band the belly hook to keep wobble down a bit. These smaller hooks are avaliable at great tackel shops such as Hi"s tacke in San Francisco -you can call them and they will ship them out. Not sure but charkbait may carry small ones. Flourcabon is only neccacary on late season fish as they switch to other food soures and are a bit line shy. That said if you use floracarbon for leader you do not have to sepearte late season lures.. I lake a few beads to keep the hooks back off the heads. There has been alot on this subject in past posts. Mark
