Default Reloading....R-P brass??

A buddy of mine picked up some brass off of a log deck knowing that I have a 30-06. It is stamped R-P. Is this brass worth reloading? Or should I make some more earings for the girlfriend?

I reload R-P brass all the time for my 06. You have to flash hole deburr and primer pocket uniform it form it but its decent.

Mark,

IF you were picking up a "bunch" of ammo, say on one of the pre-season sales, you'd want to check inside the end flap of the boxes to make sure that it ALL comes from the SAME lot.

That way you could sight in your rifle and know that you could go to any round in any of the boxes you bought and have reasonable confidence it would shoot the same.

That's because it's all loaded with the same lot of brass, powder and bullets (hopefully).

So, when they punch out a bunch of brass, it's done in lots too.

Mix up a bunch of lots of brass and you "might" get different results from case to case. This might happen, or it might not.

Precision match shooters would make sure everything is the same.

For your purposes it might not be critical...

If it's clean it'll reload just fine.

If it is factory, once fired, load it. If they are reloades trash them. The previous owner left them for a reason. Litterbug.

Brass doesn't lay long when I'm around!
R-P brass is just fine. However, for rifles I only handload Same lot cases, preferably new.

But I have some mixed lot .280 R-P brass that has been loaded, shot & trimmed so much they all weigh essentually the same now. These are from my "cheap" days.
If you shoot 200yds and under it really doesn't matter if they are mixed lot cases or not. However expect the velocity speads to be wider and accuracy to be not as good.

Milk jugs don't care though! Plinker loads using mixed lot cases like this are good for "off hand" practice at 100yds and under where accuracy is less a factor.
Just mark the heads w/ a blue stampad or something so you don't get them mixed up w/ the good brass.
