Reloading supplies from GI Joes
Need a little help folks.
GI Joes had decided to stop selling all reloading supplies.
I was told that the higher ups in the company may change there mind if enough people commented on the issue.
I am asking for a few seconds from you hunter types on this issue. Please click on the link below and send a comment if you would. I hate to see them make a decision like this. I buy a lot of reload stuff from them and I know a lot of folks who do. You can also fill out a comment card at the stores if you feel inclined.
Thanks for the help. http://www.gijoes.com/helpdesk/index.jsp...&cp=1320930

Re: Reloading supplies from GI Joes
They have had a poor selection, at least at the Beaverton store, for sometime now.

Re: Reloading supplies from GI Joes
I never paid attention to the shot gun reloading stuff, but the rifle stuff would fit in a single cart at the stores I frequent
What would they put in its place, maybe I would like it better. as long as its not nike gear or shoes

Re: Reloading supplies from GI Joes
The issue with Joes on loading supplies is they were not committed to selling the stuff so they only stocked a few things. The selections were poor and they did not direct order the stuff, if it was not at the local wholesalers the would not bring it in the store.
It's a product that if you don't have an educated staff to answer questions and understand what they are selling it's a looser and it was for them. Now I will not get my hope up thinking they will have something just to get let down when the staff doesn't even know what I'm talking about.

Re: Reloading supplies from GI Joes
Its a toss up. Granted you want to sell the right product to satisfy your customers, but if your customers know more about the product than the sales staff then its a poor representation of the companies behalf.
If you can't sell it properly then get out of it. Most of the serious reloaders probably don't go to Joe's for supplies anyway. Its either mail order or through a private gun shop. If you go into a store and they dont have the correct die or supplies you probably are not going to go back for reloading gear.
I buy 90% of all my camping gear there. I know they have a god selection in that area, then again they probably do tens of thousands of dollars in camping and hundreds of dollars in reloading.
Can't blame them.

Re: Reloading supplies from GI Joes
I also agree, prices cheaper elsewhere and selection ho-hum. I will say that they have bailed me out of a jam a couple times. But they are not going to make much money off me.
Most of my supplies are ordered via catalog....Midway, Midsouth, Weidners, Natcheze or who ever has some "must have" time saving widget on sale. Like any addiction, they have my next fix! Bi-Mart is my other local source for supplies. Joes doesn't even sell powder & primers do they?? If they took it seriously, they could compete with the Sportsmans Warehouse. But they can't do it at all GIJoes stores.
My advise to them.....pick one store and make it a SPORTSMANS PARADISE, Delta Park for instance.
Stock every RCBS & Hornaday product made. Carry every popular powder, primer, bullet, hull, wad, etc. etc. etc. And match or beat Sportsmans Warehouse prices and attempt to close the gap on mail order supply places. I'd just as soon give GIJoes my Money as any mailhouse.
They just need to move more inventory, right now they are not because the prices are high retail.
If they made a commitment to compete at the Delta Park store, the other stores could benefit to.
My thoughts,

Re: Reloading supplies from GI Joes
I have tried to purchase reloading supplies from them without success. Their selection is too random for my needs. Unfortunately I am seeing that in other departments as well. I am sure they know where they are making thier money. Good luck to them.

Re: Reloading supplies from GI Joes
they are too expensive, and to small of a selection. Better to buy bullets and brass from midway and primers and powder from sportsmans or bi-mart. Cant wait for the new sportsmans in Van to open

Re: Reloading supplies from GI Joes
GI Joe's isn't completely getting out of the reloading business. Basically we're getting rid of a lot of items that well, collect dust. At least down here at the Medford store we'll continue to carry powder, primers, boxes, and some Nosler bullets. I can't speak for other stores, however. In the discussion that lead to the decision to drop most of the reloading we were basically giving a choice. Continue with the stagnant or cut the fat and bring in Stony Point shooting accessories. Such as bench rests, shooting sticks, bipods and sand bags. In reality it wasn't that hard of a decision from a business point of view anyway. In a pinch we can still order just about anything and that's where it will probably stay.
