Default Advice for March \'01

I usually take my vacation in October/November to fish fall salmon. For the first time I was asigned a vacation for mid March of next year. I have three weeks off. Is this a good time for c&r nates? Any hints on what river to consider spending a week or so at? This could be a chance to spend some quality time on a quality river and gain some valuable experience. I have a driftboat....Thanks. I really appreciate any input!...DB

YOu mean it rains for a week straight, the week before your vacation. Than rains the first half of the vacation week, and than clears up. The rivers are not fishable until the weekend, when you had the day off anyway. I feel your pain man! Been there a couple of times! Good luck!

Para, tough to beat March nates on the Oly Pen, if the rivers are in as Dan mentioned. If not, a good alternative would be to put your boat in (if you have an OB for it) at Cathlamet, Washington and fish the Columbia R. for the huge run of springers coming up thru there next spring. Anchorup near the wing jetties on the north side of the islands near there on the outgoing tide to fish prawns, spinners, Kwikfish, etc. and trolling herring during the incoming tide. Should be great this year and the water is usually in good shape. Good luck. - RT

RT...I did not know about the Cathlamet fishery in March...thanks for the tip, if you are willing to share more please email me.

regarding OP in March..this is the place I would be. If you are good on the oars, the Sol Duc or Calawah are more fishable during the deluges that the Bogey or Hoh...there is also the Clearwater over there...and the Queets....CAN I GO TOO??!!!

Paranoid,

The whole OP would be a good bet that time of year, especially the rivers around Forks. Now, you just gotta hope for the weather to cooperate. You see, I can singlehandedly make it rain for a week straight just by planning a fishing vacation.

Fish on....

S'lice,

I don't know any more about that area. I fish more often further up the river. I metioned down low on the Col. because Para. lives closer to there and because around the March 1st date he inquired about I think there could be more fish down there? - RT
