63? I remember that day...well the second day, thanks for sharing the #'s to the biting fish. I think we ended up with 18 ourselves that second day. If I remember right you said no fish were caught in the dark like you had hope'd? but late evening, & early morning was red hot?.

Re: Tuna! A Really Good Overniter Last Year!
I get 65 or 66 but the back few rows are sketchy.
That one in the third row is a wopper!
How much did he weigh?

Man what a sweet haul! I'm hoping to do an overnighter this year for the first time....

I'm glad I missed that carking party! Nice job Popeye! With any luck we'll join you out there this year for a 36 hour tour.

Re: Tuna! A Really Good Overniter Last Year!
That's a nice haul! So, what takes longer...catching that amount of fish or cleaning them?
Several years back my first tuna trip was on a charter out of Depoe Bay, just me and 1 other customer plus 2 deck hands and 2 skippers (they were training staff on tuna). We had an excellent day and caught a number of fish but we had no idea on the numbers until we unloaded the fish on the dock. After the skipper counted 59 tuna, he turns to us and says....How many would you like? We both agreed that splitting them with the crew would be fair to us. The crew had a quick discussion and the skipper turned and said...How about we'll split the 19 and you both take 20 each...
That was alot of Tuna and at $4 dollars a piece for cleaning, I figured that was a bargain after seeing how much work it took.
That trip was the best day of fishing I've ever had. Nothing compares to fighting and landing tuna and after fighting a couple of fish on rod and reel , I also learned the value of hand lines.
That overnighter really must have been a fun trip. Hope you get the opportunity and make it out again this year and just be sure to take plenty of pics.
Gregg

You're right Ken. We left port at noon, and by dark had 23 jumbos in the box. Nothing overnite. Started at first light, just hammered 'em, and was on our way in by 7:30 AM. We passed the Dog fleet headed out, and passed off the numbers.

Re: Tuna! A Really Good Overniter Last Year!
What a great haul of Tuna. They were still carking when we got back. Wounds like you and the crew had an excellent time! Last year looked to be the best average size in the last four years.
As the commander of the Julie Rose 111 barked out the orders the fish hold began to fill.
I just get excited thinking about it.
VERY NICE !!
