what happening
What is happening to this board I thought it was a group of guys AND gal’s talking about fishing and where to catch them and stuff. All I see any more is politics and the bragging of who’s got the biggest one. I my self don’t care if you got a 30 LB steelhead a 75 LB king or a 20 ft sturgeon (OVER KILL). All I like to know is that you caught a fish or just had a nice day out on the water and I hope you had your son and most of all you took your daughter they seem to get left behind. I myself don’t have kid’s but one of the best memories I have is when my hunting buddy took his daughter with us on a hunting trip (BOW) and I got a call on the radio to get my ass down to where they where at. To make a long story short he got a small buck and she got to watch. Then she had to point out to her dad as to where he went down. To this day I will never forget her asking as I cleaned the deer, “What is that red thing, OH your sick what is that?”. She stood there on that stump and watched all of it, but to this day she will not touch a fish. Even though she likes to fish.
If I had a child ask me to take him or her fishing or hunting. Over a big hunting or fishing trip hands down the kid wins I would rather see them catch a blue gill over me catching what ever.

Re: what happening
With the way the fishing's been this fall, if you took away all the political and braggin' posts what would you have left? Not a whole lot of anything right now. And besides that, you have the right to read what you want... Sal

Re: what happening
Well I guess if thats all you got to talk about then your spending to much time in the old photo album or in front of the TV or News paper to have a good story of a sh--Y day on the river freezing your ass off. enough said.

Re: what happening
Man, I'm sorry you don't see the connection between politics and our fishing future. Yeah, maybe we get off on some obscure issues sometimes but for the most part the politics talked about on this board are connected to our current and future rights as fisherman when it comes to the elected officials that make decisions on the enviroment, quotas, pollution levels, land-use laws, etc....I've read some great threads on kids fishing on this board. Use the search feature to pull threads related to certain subjects that interest you, it works great.
I personally have enjoyed reading the stories on weirdest baits used, strange things in fish stomachs, practical jokes played on fishing buddies and the such. When I'm out fishing with family or freinds we always talk about fishing, sports, politics, food, work and everything else under the sun. Just like we do on this board and I've personally been impressed with the intelligence and caliber of the people that read and post on this board.
Like Salmonator said, "you have the right to read what you want".
I agree with you on taking a kid fishing or hunting. My fondest memories growing up revolve mainly around fishing.

Re: what happening
What you have here on this board is a bunch of absolute fishing addicts who are trying their best to keep the spirit alive.
Trying to keep the subject of fishing alive at all these days is frustrating, so we try and think of some subject that will keep us all together!
Try writing a fishing column in a drought like this! Try to stay positive, while the rivers are soooooo lowwwwww!
I for one am extremely thankful that people aren't giving up their fishing hobby for needlepoint!
Thanks for all the contributions. Proves to me that indeed, we are a close knit group, who love fishing SO much that we will bring up any fishing related subject just to stay in touch here!
YAY!

have you ever thought about the slow fishing year we have been having then only thing to keep spirts up is to make fun of politics and tell woppin fishing stories. Have you ever told a fishin story? Dont you ever brag? Well you can do it on this bb just the same as to one of your friends. SO lighten up and think of a woppin story you could post

Re: what happening
I should have posted to this thread with this response.
For all of us that have been doing this for the better part of our lives its really not the big bucks, bulls, or fish but the memories that are created from being out there. At 40 I have been at this long enough to have caught some nice fish and shot some great bucks and bulls. So, it really isn't who is bragging here, but pulling up the memories of what we are passionate for. The experiance of being outdoors with friends and family and the things we catch and shoot should be icing on the cake for an outing. This is a great board with some exellent outdoors people on it.
My thoughts

Re: what happening
When I'm fishing with people we do a lot of fishing talk, but at the same time we talk about fishing-related things as well as things that aren't remotely linked to fishing.
Yeah, this board is about fishing in general. But specifically this board consists of people who share a common bond (and for some fishing is the ONLY bond they have with some of the others).
When fishing is slow, that is usually when the best conversations are had. Both while fishing and on the board. JMHO.

Re: what happening
I've been watching this board for about two weeks. Asked some questions-got some answeres-picked up some great tips -had alot of great laughs from some-felt sorrow for others. When I come home from work,it's the first thing I want to do. Even before I go to bed, I want to check in to make sure I didn't miss anything. This is a great board.
Say what you want -Read what you want.I'm glad I found it .Thanks to those who keep it going.

Re: what happening
You can say what you want regarding this BB, but I think it (and some others like it) are the best thing since indoor plumbing. People here are a cornucopia of information, and the best thing is IT'S VOLUNTARY and FREE!! I think RT and Jen do a fabulous job of keeping the board active, useful, and clean. If you don't care for political disagreements, then don't click on the threads that obviously address politics and political issues. If you choose to click on these threads, you only have yourself to thank by reading them.
Complaints leveled about the nature of this particular BB reflect negatively on the job Jen and RT are doing here, and I find it pretty tasteless. I'm sure Jen and Steve spend many hours updating, screening, and responding to the posts on the board, as well as the financial end of running a site like this one. Show a little gratitude.
I'm sure we've all seen things we're not particularly interested in, but we've all benefitted in one way or another from this site's existence. If you don't care for the politics, it's really easy just not reading it. Personally, I like the various discussions that have taken place, even if they do get kind of carried away sometimes. In fact, Timber Man and I had a big disagreement over a political thread and then wound up finding out that our fondness of fishing outweighed our political differences. Even though I still disagree with his political position, he's a good guy that I'll probably wind up fishing with from time to time.
Sorry to blah, blah, but I believe we owe Jen and RT all the appreciation we can show them for providing this valuble tool. Thanks, Steve and Jen for the efforts you put forth in bringing us this site. You're both doing a top-notch job.
Fish on..........(and how 'bout some rain!?!)

Re: what happening
I have to agree with the majority of repliers. I'm new to the board, have read LOTS of interesting items and some not so interesting. That's what the mouse on the PC allows me to control.
We've had a fall season that, in blunt terms, sucks. If you were in the right place at the right time, you may have gotten one of the few bright fall fish. I've not been so lucky, I get to go once a weekend if I'm lucky due to family priorities.
Last round on the Wilson, I had to admit even without fish, it doesn't get much better than that. Clear blue sky, slight breeze in the trees with colorful fall leaves drifting down, calm, clear water (not the best for fishing), and suddenly three mallards rounded the bend in the river flying about 40 mph in "Blue Angel" perfect formation passing right in front of me. Fond memories of fishing that hole with buddies in the past came to mind and the amount of fish I've caught there over the past 18 years of fishing it.
Good day...bad day. Any day fishing is better than the best at work. Enjoy some nature and be assured there will always be a "better" day ahead. Along with that, let folks write what they want...we're all interested in something, just maybe not the same thing with the exception of a bent rod!
