Default we\'re lost

What is happening to this board I thought it was a group of guys AND gal’s talking about fishing and where to catch them and stuff. All I see any more is politics and the bragging of who’s got the biggest one. I my self don’t care if you got a 30 LB steelhead a 75 LB king or a 20 ft sturgeon (OVER KILL). All I like to know is that you caught a fish or just had a nice day out on the water and I hope you had your son and most of all you took your daughter they seem to get left behind. I myself don’t have kid’s but one of the best memories I have is when my hunting buddy took his daughter with us on a hunting trip (BOW) and I got a call on the radio to get my ass down to where they where at. To make a long story short he got a small buck and she got to watch. Then she had to point out to her dad as to where he went down. To this day I will never forget her asking as I cleaned the deer, “What is that red thing, OH your sick what is that?”. She stood there on that stump and watched all of it, but to this day she will not touch a fish. Even though she likes to fish.

If I had a child ask me to take him or her fishing or hunting. Over a big hunting or fishing trip hands down the kid wins I would rather see them catch a blue gill over me catching what ever.

I would like to second that A.F. I totally agree too much politics, on the B.B. thats why I hardly ever post topics. As for when you say take a child hunting or fishing I totally agree, because I am fortunate enough to learn from some great hunters. I remember when I was small and I would just go on the hunt with my dad to get the feel of it and I loved it. Now when I get my own part of the hunt and I carry a rifle its a great feeling like coming into manhood. As fishing go's (my dad isn't a salmon fisherman) I tried to contact some people on the board to help me out and I don't get replies. People can't even say sorry I can't help you they just don't respond. That makes me wonder how much they appreciate fishing because it seems as though they don't want future generations to paricipate in the awesome activity of fishing, unless they can make a profit. It really discourages me from fishing. I know that when I have kids I will be taking them fishing and and hiking before they can walk I will teach them to cherish our forests and rivers and to protect them as best as they can.

Guys in my opinion I think you're being maybe just a little too critical of what is happening on this board. Sure there are posts that vary from the main topic of fishing. If it doesn't appeal to my interest, then I don't read it.

As far as taking kids fishing. I took my son out with me last week and he landed the only Steelhead of the day. After we were done fishing, we played around and shot his pellet gun for awhile. I've been taking my kids to the river before they could walk. They have caught and released numerous trout over the years along with a few Steelhead. I think you guys have a great attitiude towards kids and the outdoors. I can't think of a better way to show them what the great Northwest outdoors has to offer.

winterkill if you have questions about Salmon fishing, post them and if I can help you out, I'll post a reply. I'm sure there are many other more experienced fisherpeople that would do the same.

Mark

Thanks Mark, well put. WK, you can click on only what you want to read about (political posts will diminish after the election final results). There is lots about fishing and tech on here! And while not every question gets answered, there is more answers and good camraderie here than any other fishing BB I've seen (and I've seen them all over the NW). I really like your fishing enthusiasm. It will be a great lifelong recreation to enjoy in the beautiful outdoors. - RT

take the kids. there is nothing like the feeling you get when you see a kid geting towed around buy a fish. i take my son and 3 other kids often. they love it my son gets burntout quick so i dont take him everytime that makes him happier to be there. the igfa has a junior angler program its a cool program the records are still low enough to get a world record. my son is the world record holder with a 9# steeie i know thats not a huge one but it qualified and now he thinks he is all that. take all the kids you know most want to go but never get asked.

I have taken my 3 3/4 year old son fishing 3 times this year. By the third trip he has learned to reel up his bobber and eggs, check the bait and push the button so it will float back over the hole.(I tell him when to stop.) He has hooked and landed (o.k., he says they are to strong and asks me to help) three Chinook this way. One was a 33lb hen. I think that as long as I keep the fishing trips short or the fishing action fairly constant I think that he will become a great fishing buddie. So far so good.

If you want to see a product of starting them a little early but not burning them out, you just have to watch the Salmonators son Sean. I think that he is only 10 but he is fishing like he is 25 years old. Scary

I bet that once the fishing picks up again during steelhead season, more fishing posts will be on the board. It is just a lull in the fishing calendar. It'll be back...
