Default Its game on for the Coyotes

This morning I went up to my dad's farm. He has hay down and its beginning to near harvest season, and with that out pop the yote's. I got there to see his last evenings carnage in the loader of his tractor.

As the story goes, he was rotary chopping around the edge of the hay field, and it was near dusk when he saw a yote come out into the hay field. For whatever reason, unknown to me he had his .22 mag with him. He told me he shot 3 times from the seat of the tractor with the mower still spinning. He said he was not sure which shot hit her but she is a dead one.

I have to laugh, we get a real kick out of putting the hurt on the coyotes. But the off of the seat shooting, it must be a redneck thing. I cant wait till we start swathing grass seed. This will bring them out of the wood work. Its always fun to get on off of the swather platform or out the window of the combine. Who needs camoflage or a call box, just start farming and they come running.

Too funny, nice shooting Pop

If somebody has a place to hunt, I could offer up the use of my foxpro in exchange for an invite.

Wonder how many mice coyotes eat a year?

I wonder how much grass seed farmers spend on mouse control cause I know how much we spend on it in the nursery. I just question the logic of shooting a natural predator in the valley, its not like they are eating phesants or chuckars over here they are hammering the mice in the new short grass. The mice populations here in the vallley have gone through the roof and we can't figure it out or stop them from eating the trees and the grass seed we bait the [whoopsydaisies!] out of them and they still do thousands of dollars of damage a year.
Don't get me wrong I love wacking yotes over east as much as the next guy and here in the valley if needed but just something to think about on the crop damage side.

I saw a 2 coyotes in the cut field off Westbound of SR-500 and the Northbound I-5 ramp (closest to Vancouver Toyota) bouncing around looking for mice. It was kinda weird seeing them on Sunday morning around 10am and in that area.

The yote's up at the farm have put ha hurt on our deer population. When we first bought the place we would see on average 10-15 deer a day. Now we have only a resident doe and her tow fawns. We have found half a dozen coyote dens, on average we kill maybe 6 coyotes on our place each year. I shot 2 out of a pack of 4 about a month and a half ago. They have also impacted our wild turkey population too.

I am not saying they are solely resonsible for the reduction in our wild turkey population, I have been very hard on ferral cats in our wooded acres. I will do everything possible to maintain and increase the numbers of turkey and deer on our place.

I think the worst offenders of the reduction of the wild turkey and deer numbers in my area is the influx of vineyards up the road from us. They kill every deer in thier vineyard as well as turkey. They have managed to get kill permits and I dont know how they manage to kill the turkey, but they do. I sure would like to make them pay to put up high fences rather than reduce the wild animal populations.

The animals where there before their %^$#@^&*& grapes. If they want and claim to be so enviornmentally friendly they need to stop the assasination of the wildlife.
