Default I have a STRANGE REQUEST

Could any of you Halibut fisher people please do me a favor.

My wife has several asian friends that are asking me if I can get them the heads from halibut. Bits and pieces of the carcas, also.

They make a excellent(so I heard ) soup from these parts and find them difficult to get.

If any of you catch hali's (and I know you do :grin and live in Hillsboro or the St. Helens area, please keep a head or 20 and any scrap from the carcas. Throw them in your freezer and send me a PM. I'll come take them off your hands.

Thanks to all......

Just tell them to go to Newport & dumpster dive, a few already do this, one lady a couple years ago had a bag full of Halibut meat from carcassas left in the dumpster, looked like 15# or more.

Yep, a couple of weeks ago a gentlman came up and asked for the carcass. I said why, he said his wife soup and he didn't like to eat though. But he still proceeded to put the next 5 caracasses in a a couple of 5 gal pails.
I know I am not the best fileter and leave meat on it. But it's not worth it to me to pick it cleaner but others are very happy to recieve them just as they are.

Thats not a strange request. I used to give all my salmon heads to an asian friend for him to make soup. Now I think he buys them at Winco for 8 or 10 cents a pound. I dont see any difference beteen that and using the chicken scraps to make soup stock and gravy.

MMMMM!! Halibut head soup. Actually never tried it but my Mother is Chinese and she says it makes the best fish head soup there is.

My family and several other families spend the second week of July at Charleston every year. Two years ago I was cleaning salmon and there was this younger Chinese guy there cleaning salmon heads. Did you know they do not use any meat from the head? They only want the head for the suet. Anyway I gave him a large fillet to take as well. His Uncle came over to our camp that afternoon and invited us to dinner. We had a traditonal five course chinese meal that inmcluded tuna, oysters, rock fish and yes fish head soup. I had four bowls . Oh and he have been e-mailing ever since.
