Default North coast, Oregon

this coming weekend finds me in Gearhart ...

Suggestions? Is it worth attempting the Necanicum ... or Klaskanine ... or Lewis & Clark ? I've fished the Necanicum a few times - don't have a clue about where to go on those others.

Really kind of leaning toward Coffenbury Lake where there might at least be FISH.

What would YOU do ? (Oh great fishing wizards ...)

One thing is for certain, if the Ducks lose it won't be because Phish_on did not swill enough micro-brew ! ! !

Corvallis ... where the MEN are MEN and the SHEEP are scared ...
GO DUCKS ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Well I have fished the Necanicum for about 10 Years for winter steelhead. A friend of mine fished once at the end of October in a place we call the "tube hole" it's between the gated off area of the river. He said he hooked about 4 chinook there but knowing how he talks it probably was 2 and he saw 2 more roll.
I've been on the bridge in seaside during late Oct. and seen fish under the bridge in town. I just have never fished for them so I don't know for sure. I do know there is virtually no water in the river right now. I would eithe try the bridge hole there at Clourtie Creek or about a mile up from there if you follow the bank there is a really good deep hole.
As for the other ones, I think it is a crap shoot.

I used to live in Seaside for a couple of years and really liked fishing the Lewis and Clark for steelhead. Just before I moved the timber company that owned it at the time locked it down permantly, except for hunting seasons. It might be open right now for elk season? To get there, you'll head south on 101 from Gearhart towards Seaside. You'll cross a bridge on the highway, it's the one as you cross into the city limits. Take the first left after the bridge and follow that road up about 3-5 miles. You will pass the city dump and will keep going up that until the road "T's". Hang right and follow the gravel road south and you will be running along the river. There is also a gravel road the runs west as you are driving the mainline south, if I remember right it was around the intersection where you would have originally hit gravel. If you follow that down a 1/4 mile or less you will come to a bridge that crosses the river. Park there and walk up, some really nice stretches through there. It's been at least 6 or more years since I've been up there and things may have changed or my memory may not be exact but it will put you the ballpark. Beautiful country up through there, you'll enjoy it. I've never cared much for the Klatskanie river, lot's of private land, more pain then it's worth. Good fishing in September for jacks in tidewater.
