What's your most versatile Lure?
I was going through my tackle boxes the other day rearranging, sorting, trying to get 8 tackle boxes into 4. When I got to thinking about which lure I've caught the most species of fish on. Well for me I would have to say ROOSTER TAILS. I have caught Lrg Mouth and Small Mouth Bass, Crappie, Trout, Steelhead and of course the infamous Chub. Dark green has been my color of choice for the above. Next I believe would be Hot Shots. I've nailed LM & Sm Bass, Salmon & Steelhead on it.
What's your most versatile lure?

Eggs, I would have to say a black with sliver blade roster tail. For bait it would be earth worms

Re: What's your most versatile Lure?
I'd hafta go with a spinner of some sort, whether it's store bought or homemade. Another winner has been a longheld secret picked up on your lawn after lights out.

Re: What's your most versatile Lure?
Bait: Earthworms - I've caught probably 20-25 different types of fish on 'em.
Lure: #3 spinner - Not as overall productive as the worms, but I have picked up a lot of different kinds of fish with midsized spinners.

Re: What's your most versatile Lure?
I would have to second the #3 spinner, probably black body with a silver blade.

I think the most versitile lure you can use is bait. Eggs or worms seem to be able to catch just about anything.

Re: What's your most versatile Lure?
Probably a spinner of some type. A #5 Lucky 'R' in 50/50 Brass is pretty effective on most evrything I fish for. Even had a buddy catch a keeper sturgeon on this lure. Yes, right in that big ol' ugly tubey mouth thinger!
Spinners are a good thing!

Re: What's your most versatile Lure?
The most versatile lure has to be a spinner, hands down. They can be trolled, tossed, flipped, dragged, flung, shanked, maybe even kicked, and still have hope of catching a fish...

Re: What's your most versatile Lure?
The all time most versitile Spinner is the Panther martin in Yellow W/silver blade & Black w/gold blade. This is the only lure I ever fish with. The use of Yellow vs. Black depends on the sunlight & water conditions. To date I have caught: Chinook, Rainbows, Grayling, Chum, Coho, Bull trout, Lake Trout, Brown Trout, Kokanee, Large & small Mouth & Striped Bass, Brook Trout, Squaw Fish, Catfish, Sea Bass, Greenling, Surf Pearch, Shad, Herring, Northern Pike, sunfish, --Pretty much anything but sturgeon. I even use tiny Panther martins on my fly rod-(I heard the gasp from the flyfishing community) I always wait for the sale at Bi-mart where I can get them for $.99 & stock up. I kid you not - My main tackle box consists of 20 or so panthers of varying size & other lures I have found while fishing with them.
On a side note - What makes a lure versitile is the angelers experience using it. Knowing exactly where the lure is working in the water column and how it is acting in the current is a big key. This is probably why I fish with the same lure all of the time. I have no idea what a plug, blue fox, jig, etc is doing when it is on the end of my line - and as a result I cant always put it infront of the fish.

Re: What's your most versatile Lure?
Sand Shrimp catches everything!!! If I could only have one bait for the rest of time it would be that, but what about the herring or blue foxes or panthers or corkies? I LOVE THEM ALL SO MUCH I CANT DECIDE!!!! I think Im just going to go hug my gear!
