Latest from John Casteel
Hi there, Just talked with John after this letter. As many people as are willing to come are welcome.
We only need a skeleton crew, but gosh, come if you want, and they will put you to work!
Please do! Here is the letter:
Alert ! Alert!
ZaQ & Jennie:
The dry weather and rapidly dropping stream flows have forced a change in plans. The low
flows, with no immediate signs of rain, have forced Trask Hatchery to handle the salmon that
they had in their pens. The dropping water levels presented a clear danger of fish loss.
Because of this we will not have nearly as many fish available for distribution on Saturday.
Trask Hatchery has limited freezer space and we will only have 200 - 400 whole carcasses
available at the East Fork Pond. Because the heads are still on these they will need to be
distributed into the East Fork Trask. A crew of 8-10 people could easily handle this
operation. An additional P/U truck to assist in hauling fish would be advantageous.
If you are interested in mobilizing a smaller crew I would be glad to work with you on
Saturday. Fresh rains could bring in additional coho and some chinook, but the timing depends
upon the fish. They don't seem particularly interested in honoring our calendar and
commitments.
Let me know what you would like to do.
