It sure can't hurt..... we haven't had a steady rain, but we have had showers for a couple days now... both rivers should start to fish any day.

No web site that I know of.... that not to say there isn't one. Call the El river hatchery 541-332-7025 they will start giving water level reading once their trap is fishing.

My brother-in-law was on the river yesterday 11/14 he fished the mouth, hooked 2 landed 1 (slightly colored)30 people and 4 fish hooked.... last week, everyone was catching fish down there, so the fish are moving up into the river at a steady rate now, it should fish well this week. It still may be clear, but there is enough water to fish... good luck.

Fished the elk and the sixes on 11-10 & 11-11
the water was so low and clear it was sick.Could see a few fish but wouldn't bite.
Fished a zipper lip on 11-12 got run out by a
man from the movie deliverance waving his riffle yelling get out get out !!!!!!!
They need four to seven inches of rain like right now.RAIN/RAIN. Good luck,

TH, since you seem the knowing type, I have another question. Do either the Elk or the Sixes have a fishable tidewater? Around here we fish the Alsea and Siletz with bobber and eggs in the large tidewater sections. Does any of that go on down in your neck of the woods?

I fish down there every year. It is best to pull out at the last boat ramps on either river (at101) it's along ways by oar. there is realy no acess to the tide areas as these rivers run right over the beach. Yhe fish come in on high tide.

I don't know that I am the "known'n type" but both river do have a good tidal section. However, they can be tricky to get to.
The Sixes has the best access to the lower section.. Th Elk has a better tidal fishery but it is impossible to get to without a 4-wheeler, or a 45 minute walk. Taking a drift boat out at the mouth on the Elk is very risky, if it isn't low tide, you are in trouble, the water moves very fast and the volume eliminates much of the beach area. Locals tend to get very upset w/ any motors on the lower section, it is becoming more popular, but still not worth the hassle you will get from the large ranch onwers. ???
The best bet is to wait for a good storm, (3-8) inches of rain and start fishing from the top down. That's my .02
