Default Outboard Help

OK, I've done the unthinkable. After my last trip out in the boat, I failed to run the gas out of the motor. I forgot to disconnect the fuel line. I now own a couple gallons of bad gas. First, Where do I take this bad gas?Second, I took the boat down to the river for a 3hr. tour. all I could get was the boat in the water and a high idle. Dies instantly when put into gear. I am looking for a divine intervention, just some new gas and go. With my luck, I arrive at my 3rd. question. Anyone recommend a outboard mechanic?

PB: I am confused that you say you have bad gas because you forgot to disconnect the line when you ran the motor or something like that.

How old is the gas in the tank?

What type of motor and size? Inboard or outboard.

What type of tank: built in or portable.

Do you have a fuel separator.

How are you using the choke? YOu have it out, is it stuck? Are you putting it in after the engine is started? Cold weather has an effect on the choke.

Is motor warmed up before you put in gear?

These are a few questions if you answer might enable us to help you.

Giz..

You said you forgot to run the gas out, it depends on how long the gas has been in the carburator,if its been over 3to 4 months you could have varnish in the carb in which case you will have to have the carb taken apart and cleaned. So it depends how big and what kind of motor as to how easy it will be to repair. I used to be in outboard repair, so if you need some help you can E-mail me at rfishman47@aol.com The Fishman

The gas is 2 mo. old in a portable metal 6 gal. tank that had the lid in the vent position.

The motor is a 1974 70hp Evinrude

Don't think I have a fuel separater, Where would it be located?

The choke is electric, the key is turned on then pushed in to activate the choke. Then turn farther to start. Starts and runs at high idle ok, low idle not so smooth. Tried to bump the choke with it idling high and it wanted to die. (choke works?)

Ran the motor for 10 min. at high idle, I thought that should get it warm enough.

By the way, I'm still puting the funds together for one of those kickers you have. That is if you still have any.

HI: If the gas is only 2 mo. old, it should be good. I use gas that is 6 mo and never had a problem.

I believe you just got this set up. Was the motor working at what you consider normal idle? or has it run fast.

It might be nothing more than a carb adjustment to bring the rpms down.

On the kickers, yes I still have them and if you want one, give me an email and lets put something together for you so you can fish.

Last time out it ran near perfect. I think I'm gonna change the gas and plugs.
