Just talked to John Casteel.
Please refer to ZaQs page here...
http://zaq.4mg.com/carcass.html for these details and more...
Here is the latest.
We will be meeting at 7:30 A.M. on November 18th at the Tillamook
O.D.F.W. office, located by the Fairgrounds in Tillamook.
Please wear rain gear and clothes that you don't care about. This is a
messy job! Cotton 'throw away' gloves are recommended. Don't wear
anything you are not ready to part with! These fish tend to smell fishy,
but then again, hey.... we fish, we know that, right?
If you have any specific questions about this project, John Casteel is
heading it up. You may reach him at 503.842.2741.
We have 400 fish to work with. With the appropriate number of
volunteers, (20 or more) we will split into two teams.
200 of these fish are 'head on' frozen fish that need to go where there
are no surveys conducted. If we dump them in a surveyed area, they will
be accidentally counted in the survey. We are going to take these to the
East Fork Pond on the Trask. These fish are frozen and need to be loaded
into a full size, preferably 3/4 ton truck. They will be in a plastic
tote that is 4x4x4.
No trailers will be needed if we can locate a truck that can handle
this. Please e mail ZaQ or Jen if you have one!
The other 200 fish are still live at the Trask Hatchery at this point.
They will be processed and the heads cut off on Friday. If we get any
significant rain by then, this number could increase dramatically. These
fish can go to Cedar Creek on the Wilson. If anyone wants to help
process these fish on Friday, contact John Casteel, and he will tell you
if you are needed.
*civil war note: For those of you worried about getting back to
Portland/home for the game, I suggest going with the Cedar Creek crew, as you will be working near Jones Creek Park along hiway 6 and can leave from there to get home for the game.
Please, if you can not attend, let me know ASAP. We need a fairly
accurate count of people to pull this off.
Thank you so much for your help. The fish thank you!
Jen
