Default Spreader Bars and TUNA!

I am probably one of the few nutjobs around that uses multiple lures (spreader bars and daisy chains) for tuna. Me and my crew know how well they work... but this report from the East Coast is pretty sick! I am getting excited... hopefully the tuna make a showing this year!

Anyone else use spreader bars or daisy chains?

Here's the pics from that report...

...and... here's a couple of my bars (which are Fred Archers Superbars) running behind my boat. These look pretty damn tasty behind the boat. Weve had great success with daisy chains on tuna... and its only logical that a spreader bar will be even better. I am fond of the idea of trolling a couple meatballs of bait behind my boat.

Those look great. I do have a couple of daisy chains that I picked up at fishermans for a pretty good price. I haven't had too much success at it yet but will keep trying then. They look tasty as can be too.

That's a pretty blue reel he's got there. What is it, anyway? And forigve my ignorance, but what's the orange torpedo behind the spreader?

The orange 'torpedo' is a 15-inch pink skirt chasing the pod of green teasers. You can switch chasebaits (for different sizes and colors)... I use the big dawg (15-incher) for shark trolling. Hoping it resembles a mid-large gamefish chasing down a pod of smaller fish.

The blue reel is an Avet.

I like daisy chains of birds, or of hoochies ahead of a feather, but spreader bars I have always been afeard of. Too much potential for severe tanglation.

Hi,

I have fished many of times on the east coast, with
spreader bars and daisy chains for BFT,& YFT.
They definately put more meat in the box.
I'm originally from the east coast, and fished waters from
South Jersey, to the Outerbanks of N.C.
A normal BFT rig is a #24 Old Salty Planer, painted black ON A HAND-LINE 9in. leader wheel 300lb. mono 100ft. long.
8 ft. of rope, tied off the mono with a loop to attatch it to a cleat. Coast lock snaps, and stainless line thimbles at ALL connections, for strength. This set up puts 52 lbs. of drag out when runninng in excess of 6-8 knots high speed.
You then attatch a double sided coastlock snap swivel and a #64 rubber band looped around your rod line. Send the opposite side of your doublesided coast lock swivel snap, down your handline, while trolling. This will cause your bait or lure to travel down the 300# hand-line 50 ft. below the surface. Oh, make sure you attatch a plastic bead/egg
24inches on the hand-line above your planer, with crimps.
This will eliminate, your rod-line to tangle with the Planer.
Then for your surface rig, there is a NEW breakdown spreader bar/dredge on the market. Its made by poonman,
it is used by many on the other board you mentioned at the top of your link SFC.
This spreaderbar/dredge is located on the wahoonbox forum on SFC, pictures etc. etc. Its the first of its kind
where you can spin it and it closes up for easy storage in the pit. The squids to are holographic, and high quality
Go check out some of the video on http://www.sportfishermen.com, Wahoonbox forums, or videos
section. There is some awesome tips, on targeting BFT
there. The spreaderbars are on www.poonman.com I think.
If not you'll see the link on the wahoonbox forum and pictures, just look for the story on the best spreaderbar/dredge.

I started dragging chains last season at the same time I also installed outriggers on my boat.I was running the chains on the riggers and caught my first chain and rigger fish at the same time. Sixpak
