Re: sandy river
The Sandy usually has good steelhead fishing by mid December,I can't wait. There's usaully some fish that come in around Thanksgiving then there seems to be a slow period before they start coming in strong.Hopefully it will be a good run this year.

Re: sandy river
Has anyone heard any predictions how the winter steelhead season will be on the Sandy this year?

Re: sandy river
What is the best drift for steelhead? I'm a novice oarsman, so I'll pass on the class 4 stuff.

Re: sandy river
The Sandy is a great river for beginers. The Oxbow park to Dabny is a great drift. Nothing but riffles to get you used to the oars and some bends in the river that teach you to pull away from the walls. Just do not underestimate any river or water there is always potential for problems or hidden hazards. Good luck.

Re: sandy river
Hey Thanks! I've been down the Wilson from the Guide Shop to Sollie a few times and the John Day from Service Creek to Twickenham (for them little green fish). Does Jack or anyone else have a shuttle service?

Re: sandy river
I have used the same shuttle service on the Sandy for years. It is called "River Shuttle Service" and her name is Dorothy Nass. Her number is 666-2270 and they have a 24 hour answering service too. If you are a regular drifter of the river, just give her a copy of your key and then all ya got to do is call her and let her know what time you are launching and where you are putting in and taking out.
She has a cell phone with her too, and you might ask her for that number just in case you come out early, or your rig isnt where it should be when you get to the take out. One time I know that she had a flat tire and that really screwed up the transfer of rigs that day.
Hope to see ya on the river! Good drifting to ya!

Re: sandy river
yep thats ture the girl scout camp owns property on both sides of the river...This year they posted it.I ran into the guy a couple times this year when I drifted that section of the river. I guess they got tired of spending hours cleaning up the mess that fisherman and summer swimmers made. The last straw was when some idiot flashed one of the girlscout members...scratch up another lost oppertunity to the few idiots that give the majority a bad name. Just got to love those snaggers, litters....Jeff

Re: sandy river
Heard a rumor about the dodge park area across from the girl scout section of the river, that it has been closed by the girl scout camp . pipe line & scout hole. What is the truth? I hope it's just a rumor.

Re: sandy river
Jeff,
Thanks for the info. It really is a bummer to keep losing more and more fishing area each year. I haven't fished the scout hole in a couple of years, we always picked up the trash and took it out after every fishing trip. If you pack it in pack it out.
